AS WE ENTERED A FIELD I REMEMBER CROSSING OVER BARBED WIRE AND IT NICKED ME CUTTING MY FATIGUES. IT WAS LATE IN THE DAY AND AS WE WALKED THROUGH THE HIGH GRASS THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION. THE SGT SAID FREEZE AND INDICATED WE WERE IN A DUD MINE FIELD AND NOT TOO MOVE. WE DID NOT FOR A LENGTHY TIME AND SOON THE FIRE TRUCKS, AMBULANCES AND SEARCH LIGHTS WERE ON US AS IT WAS NOW PRETTY DARK. THERE WERE I BELIEVE THREE MEDICS CAME IN TO TREAT THE WOUNDED AND THEN ANOTHER EXPLOSION OCCURRED. A LT. WAS KILLED AND A FEW OTHERS WOUNDED.

Comments: Dad's military records were destroyed in the NPRC fire of 1973. I know he completed basic training at Camp Breckenridge and was then shipped to Korea from Ft. Lewis, Washington in about August of 1952. I have no information as to his company or unit, other than he was 101st ABN. I do know that he was a gunner on either a 30cal or 50 cal machine gun, and was frostbitten on his feet. He was discharged from the service in November of 1953 after spending his entire tour in Korea. If anyone has any information at all that might help me reconstruct his service/duty, I would greatly appreciate it. He passed away in 1994 and I have no other information. Thanks so much for your help! Nancy Baker - daughter

Sybil Lewis wrote on 2004-09-04 09:47:54.0

Comments: I am sorry for the mis-information that I provided regarding my own father. I wrote requesting any information on him prior to or after 1954. The corrected information that I have on him is that his name is A.J. Guillory he was known as Frenchy. Basic training was in Fort Bragg probably around 1952 I belive it was jump school. He supposedly was in Eta Jima in 1954 with the 82nd Airborne, he also apparently worked in medical records during that time. We requested his records from the military and they informed us that all records from 1947 - 1956 were distroyed in a fire. Now what confuses me is that I do have a picture and on the back he wrote my class of 1954 in Eta Jima Japan. Maybe most of this is correct. (I really hope) If anyone has any information I would really appreciate hearing from you. Thank you

Comments: Looking for any veterans of the 148th INF that served in Korea. The 148th was part of the 37th Infantry Division, Ohio National Guard. It was activated in Jan 1952 for 2 years, and was stationed at Camp Polk, LA. Almost all the members of the 148th were sent as individual replacements to Korea. We are putting together a museum at HHC 1/148th INF, Ohio National Guard armory in Lima, OH. The 148th is the only remaining infantry battalion in the state. Please stop by at www.148infantrymuseum.org . Please contact. SGT Joshua Mann

Comments: My uncle Albert O. Travis of Houston, Texas was in the Army during the 1950's. Family members recently sent me pictures of Albert's wife and Daughter, that I never knew existed..The only info I have is their names. Toyoko was the wife and daughter was Junko. From the pictures they appear to be from the middle/late 1950's but could be even a little later. The little girl is dressed in traditional oriental dress/with headpiece. The pictures were emailed to me and are of poor quality. Albert was b. 17Dec1934 Houston, Texas and d. 1998 Texas I wish I had more to go. I have used every free search resource available and have found nothing.
