Comments: Was stationed as permanent cadre to Bldg 58, Training Aids Section, Eta Jima School Command, from April, 1949 thru September, 1951. I was stationed at EJSC when Korean deal started in June, 1950. EJSC was part of JLC. (Japan Logistical Command) Students came to EJSC from Okinawa, Guam, and all the Units stationed in Japan and FEC. They came to schools such as: Automotive Maintenance, Cooks & Bakers, Electrical Lineman, Signal Corps, Motion Picture Projection, Corps of Engineers, etc. I was in charge of the Training Aids Section where indigenous draftsmen, artists, sign painters, carpenters, metalsmiths, etc. designed and produced the various training aids for these school classrooms. Soon after Korean War began, Japanese recruits replaced American students and became part of the JNPR. (Japanese National Police Reserve) I was in the Headquarters and Service Company most of the time I was at Eta Jima. I was returned to Camp Breckenridge, KY and discharged 9/22/51.

Am not sure but the location could have been Fort Campbell, Fort Benning, or Fort Jackson. Mom seems to think you may have also met years after the war. Wonsan.

Comments: I am looking for a man named JERRY, last name possibly Christopher. He was in the ARMY, a SSG, stationed in OKINAWA 1954-1955. He may be short, about 5' 7." He is missing the tip of his pinkie finger on his right hand. He may have been a cook, or connected to the Ordnance School. At some point he may have gone to the Phillippines. His girlfriend's name was Toyoko Asato. She worked as a maid at Camp McTureous. She was pregnant when Jerry left Okinawa and their daughter was born in February, 1956. Her name is Junko Fukuhara. Jerry wrote Toyoko and sent money. His last letter was sent from Chicago in 1958. Unfortunately, that same year, Toyoko died. Fukuhara-san was taken to live with her grandmother. No one ever notified Jerry that Toyoko had died. In her mother's effects there are papers with the names Sgt. John D. Faver, Jr., nickname "Dee" from San Antonio, Texas; and Sgt. John H. Tietney or Tiefney from New Hampshire. They may have been friends of Jerry's. Fukuhara-san is looking for her father. She does not want anything from him, just to know about him. I am helping her search as she does not speak or write English. I have made a web site with his picture and would ask that anyone who was in Okinawa when he was there please look and see if they recognize him. He served in the Army from july 1948--Oct 1951, and was held for one more additional year for the convence of the Govt. as is stated on his DD-214. He never left the states and does not seem to have been in any particular unit. There is no mention of any on his form. The question that we are asking is what he did in the service? On his DD--214 line 28 which is "most significant duty assignment" it reads as follows Pnts Sec MHD ASU 3441. Does anybody know what that means and what he did in the service? I hope that somebody can help and thanks in advanc to one and all who can help. X-Vet from Vietnam.

Comments: The 278th never went to Korea. It was stationed at Ft. Devens Mass. A part of the unit went to Ft. Drum, N. Y. to participate in winter maneuvers as the aggressor force against the 82nd Airborne, another part went to Iceland as the Infantry portion of the Iceland Defense Force. The unit mainly trained new soldiers from the northeast and sent them to Korea.
After a short period on active duty, members of the TNG Unit were sent to Korea individually. Many who returned from Korea were assigned to the 278th to help train newly inducted soldiers. I did not serve in Korea but stayed with the 278th at Ft. Drum.
