Comments: Pte. Daniel J. (Danny)Keogh was killed in action on March 17th, 1953. He was a member of the 9th infantry regiment,2nd Infantry Division. He was an Irishman who came from Drumlish, County Longford. He joined up in Sparks, Nevada.I would be grateful if anyone could give us any information on the whereabouts of his regiment or what battle he may have been killed in, on the day he died. It was St. Parick's day 1953. He is buried back in Ireland. His family still mourn him and we would be very grateful for any information from old comrades or war historians thank you.

Comments: I am looking for a medic, American Artillery Officer, that was also a pow. He was a black man. I was near Kunuri when I was wounded. We were first taken to a school house, where this man helped me. If anyone has any info. Please e-mail or write.
JAMES YOUNG, JOSEPH TRAVERS, MARTIN MCDONOUGH RAMON MARINEZ, GEORGE MCDONNELL, JAMES HODGES, JOE MCNEIL, EDWARD COLLINS, & JOHNNIE TRAHEAL, who was in the 24th, not sure of spelling of his last name. These men where in POW Camps 1,3,5, but I can't remember much else due to my Ptsd, my mind won't go there. I need something to trigger my memory. I was released from Camp 5 sometime in Feb 1952, with a bunch of other guys, we all in bad shape, I was not talking at all, so in the Mash Unit they put down that I was shot in the leg by a Korean Houseboy, had a self inflicted gun shot wound, was WIA, the latter is true. My files are gone in the 1973 fire so all the VA has are my medical records, which are wrong. I had a paper stating I was a POW but due to my then undiagnosed PTSD in 1953 I threw it out to get rid of the memories. I remembered the names of these guys after I had been asked to give a speech on POW rememberance day, it came flooding back, but not everything. I found one guy Wyman Kaiser in Jan 1999, called him and his son told me that his father had died a few days before I called. He was a POW in Korea, but never, never talked about it. How many guys out there are still suffering from undiagnosed PTSD. They won't even recognise my claim even tho I have been in treatment for 6 years, and gave them letters from 2 of my doctors. They say I have to have received a CIB PH, and my DD214 states I received both along with the SS and BS, but they have a different one on file and won't accept my original onionskin one as the original. I don't know of anyone who has two different DD214's I really got shafted and no matter how I try I can not get anyone of any importance to tell me how I can sort it out. The DAV was supposed to be handling my case when my last claim was denied, but that has come to nothing. The service officer was supposed to appeal for me, but now he has moved to the district office so that is the last I will hear of that. I know they are just waiting for me to die. Its very hard when you know you gave your all and you truly believe in your country, here I am on crutches and sometimes confined to a wheelchair, because of my leg and back problems. If I could locate any of these guys maybe they could verify I was in POW camp, and on many of the marches. I was so very young and to think volunteered to go into the army, when I was 17. I hope someone will remember me, I am just a little skinny guy, my Dad was Filipino, but I was born in San Francisco. Please let me know if anyone out there out there can help me, I'd sure appreciate it. I don't know where to go next. Please look at the comments column to find out how I was captured and other information. thanks. Larry M. Casilac v

Comments: It was November 18, 1950, I was with Fox Company 9inf reg 2id, we where 3 miles NE of Kunuri. I remember this because the Command Post had just moved 1 mile NE of Kunuri that day. We got into a fire fight with Chinese Communists, I was a bazooka man, I got hit in the leg, got separated from my squad, it was dusk,I laid there for several hours. The Chinese found me, and took me to a school house, there 20 other men there. We eventually ended up in Bean Camp 1, then I went to Camp 2 and then Camp 5. I was put in the turnip bin a few times for not signing germ warfare papers. I can't remember much else I know they really worked on my mind, and I am still suffering to this day. I have to keep going all day so I don't remember, I run in my sleep to get away from the chinese. I have most of the 20 diseases the va now recognises. But Larry Casilac is not recognised even though I gave my all, my country has let me down. Can anyone out there help me, please.

Comments: My friend Bob Crane is interested in the whereabouts of a man with the last name VARGO. Mr. Vargo attended radio school in Japan in early 1953. Two classmates were Marvin Temple (KIA 3/5/53)and Bob Crane. They had one unexpected night of liberty when they experienced the first snow storm in that part of Japan in about 8 years. Bob Crane later received one letter from Mr. Vargo saying that Marvin Temple had died in a mortar attack. Mr. Vargo may have been from ND?
Information about what may have happened to Mr Vargo or where he might now be would be very helpful. Thank you!

Now that I've got home again I can say I respect the men who had to endure these inconveniances

Comments: CPL. Richard (Dick)B. Oswald was my uncle. I am doing research for his brother, my uncle Donald Oswald. Uncle Dick was lost in Korea near Kuniri (Sp?) on 11/30/50. I believe he was in B Company, 2nd Infantry Division, 9th Infantry Regiment. He is listed as a POW and date of death is listed as 1/27/51. We do not know what camp he may have been in and no remains have been returned to us. We do not know how the government arrived at his date of death. If anyone has any information on or memories of my uncle please email me. Our family has lovingly maintained the memorabilia of his life and his brief military career but the uncertainty surrounding his loss and the abscence of remains for a family burial still leave a wound in our hearts. Thank you for any help you can give us.

Comments: I am doing some internet research for my father who was in Company D - heavy weapons, mortars, machine guns - 1952 to 1953. They were in many locations - he remember Arrowhead, 281, Eerie, others in general Old Baldy/T-bone/Portchop areas. He remembers officer names Lt. Hill, Sgt. Newcomber. He remembers company member names (not sure spelling) Lee Abatta, Bonofassis "bonnie", Alvarez, Coffee. I'm interested in hearing from anyone else in Company D during same time frames / periods. Email to suecox@ix.netcom.com.

Comments: I am writing this letter in the hopes of finding anyone who had served time with my Dad as an infantry soldier in the Korean War. Although my Dad is thankfully still with us, I am short on information at this moment. Like most soldiers in combat, he dosen't talk much about the war. He does however tell the few deliberately choosen stories over and over. He talks about the men that were killed, the crimes he saw committed, the importance of fox holes and the unimaginable cold. He remembers the desperation of changing his sweaty socks for dry ones before the frost bite could set in. He remembers trading food rations for the one candy bar that could satisfy his energy level needed to get over the next hill and he remebers this his favorite story of all. He was a young green soldier who was freezing one night. It was a night when there wasn't too much action and the guys were able to make a fire to keep warm. Of course there wasn't too much wood around to keep the fire burning so they would traditionally use gun powder to keep the fire burning hot. Well this particular night my Dad, thinking his was funny decided to pull the pin out of a grenade and empty the gun powder out and then tossed the grenade itself into the fire to scare the guys. Now with an American granade after emptying it there is no chance of an explosion, therefore he thought he would have the last laugh..........but unbeknowest to him it was a Russian grenade and this is not true..........simply pulling the pin does not allow the gun powder to pour out so he actually threw a live grenade into the fire. Well luckily enough noone was hurt and my father learned a real lesson that night..........it's a was story that always brings a chuckle. There aren't many memories during war time that can make someone smile so I thought I would share this with all the soldiers who ever fought a battle. If anyone remebers my Dad please contact us we'd love to hear from you. His name is Arnold Hatta and currently lives on Long Island. If anyone can help me with informnation on how to recieve copies of his dog tags I'd appreciate it. I would love to give them to my Dad as a gift. Thankyou.......

Comments: My DD-214 reflects that I was wounded on 29 July 1993, two days subsequent to the cease fire.
Briefly: My unit, George Company, 9th Rgmt., 2nd Inf. Div., was on the MLR at the time of the cease fire, and immediately thereafter, we were all engaged in tearing down bunkers (to prevent their use by he enemy in the event of a future violation of the cease fire)
At any rate, one of the bunkers had been booby trapped by the enemy before they retreated from that area at some earlier period. At any rate, the booby trap was very well hidden and undetected by any friendly occupants of the bunker (which included elements of the 3rd Div., who we replaced in these same positions a few weeks earlier). > > As a Rifle Squad Leader I was supervising the dismantling of several bunkers, and happened to be only a yard or two away from this particular bunker, at the moment the booby trap exploded. Thankfully, the explosive device was a concussion grenade (as opposed to a fragmentation grenade), and I was peppered with small shards as opposed to the more powerful chunks dispersed by the more lethal fragmentation grenades.

Comments: Our Mother, Mrs. Allener Perry Wilcher (deceased), 513 Hines Street, Sandersville, GA was notified December, 1950 that Charlie was missing in action.
Some time later she received his Purple Heart Metal along with a letter which indicated that Charlie had not been found.
Our hearts still ache for him, especially during his birthmonth in October. We miss him still, and love him so much! Is he still alive somewhere in Korea? He's constantly in our prayers. We won't give up!
Please let us hear from you. Thank you very much.

Of his unit, I'm not sure how many men, over 300 I am told, only he and 2 others survived the battle. I am trying to find anyone who may know him, or may know of this battle. I'm making a web page in his memory and would like to add about this important event. My vet page is at: Click Here. I'm a Vietnam Vet myself. Anyway, I give all you korean war hero's a high and snappy SALUTE! Thank You, Arthur A. DiDonna, SEA 1972-73
