Comments: My name is Dale Hallett and I worked with Bob Omick at the same historic sight for several seasons. I was doing a little research on Bob's Unit and thought I'd pass on his obituary.

Bob was like a second grandfather to me. He was quite the character and his mind was razor sharp even in his seventies. He told some stories of Korea and one day I brought in my slide projector to look at about 50 slides he had taken during the war. I wish I had scanned them.

If you have any picture files of Bob I'd love to see them.

Thanks, Dale Hallett

Las Cruces Sun News 25 Nov 2006

Robert Edwin Omick, 76, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Bob was born on May 31, 1930 in Chicago, IL. He served as an artillery sergeant in the Korean War. After graduating from Central College in Pella, IA, he went on to earn a PhD in English Literature from the University of Iowa in 1966. During his career, he taught at the University of Iowa, Indiana State University and served as Dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Western New Mexico University. He also loved drama, was an outstanding actor, and directed and starred in many plays. In retirement he traveled often, volunteering in national and state parks in Missouri and New Mexico. He was a man of uncommon wit, humor and insight and is deeply missed by his family and friends.

Comments: I am searching for ANYONE who knew my grandfather. His name is Martin Scheiblhofer, and with quite the last name I am sure someone knows/remembers him. I am trying to aid in him reconnecting with war buddies. He said he was in headquarters. He was a FM Radio operator, Cannon-neer and Field Wireman from our conversations. He doesn't remember names from the top of his head but I'm sure he would recognize any and every.

I was in Korea with the 9th F.A. near the beggining of the war. We
started out at Taegu, aka the Pusan Perimeter.I was a driver for one of
the guns (155s) for a time then i went in to the detail section of C

We went all the way north to Sinuau on the Yalu an back to Seoul.
The 9th was in suport of the 1st ROK then as i don't think the 3rd
