Comments: Trying to get some info on my husbands father. His paperwork says Btry B 981 FA BN. I assume this means 981st Field Artillery? He is deceased. He served in Korean Jan? 52 to Oct 53. Would this be the right battalion? He was a cannoneer from his paperwork. Never researched anything like this, so any info is helpful. Would like to find out what battles he may have been involved in.

Comments: Looking for:
1. Anybody that served with Kelson Salyers (my dad) in Baker Battery in 52-53.
2. Photos of that unit
3. A good resource for troop positions; thought it would be interesting to track the unit's movements during the war if possible.

Comments: I was a draftee filler from Ohio joining B Battery, 981st in early October, 1950. Trained at Camp Cooke, Cal.and Camp Younghans, Japan in 3rd platoon (fire direction, field survey, etc.) Moved to Korea as part of advanced party Dec.,1951 to relieve 24th Div. Was promoted to 3rd platoon Sgt.June of 1952 replacing Msgt. Al Miller who was rotated home. Was offered battlefield commission but refused because of my fathers death in July, 1952. Left Korea early Oct. 1952 as SFC. Our outfit did a good job and I have always been proud to have been a part of old B Battery.

Comments: Today is the 52d anniversary of the Korean War truce, which began at 2200 local time. Our gun section chiefs were required to turn in their firing mechanisms at 2145 to ensure there was no violation on our part. However, the Chinese artillerymen had no such requirement, and we took a lot of incoming fire during that last 15 minutes. On 11 Nov 03, I addressed a third-grade class on my experiences during the war. On 5 Apr 05, I spoke to two eleventh-grade history classes on the same subject. Both were well-received. Would welcome contact with any members of Battery B during the period October '52 - November '53.

Comments: My father passed away in Jaunary 2000. I found his Zippo cigaret liter with his name and unit number engraved on along with what I think is his name in Japaness. I was only 7 or 8 when he served and wonder if anyone remember him and had any stories. If not I still salute you men "the greast generation".
