Arkansas Korean War Project |

Brian Robertson wrote on 2008-08-01 13:25:45.0
Comments: The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies of the Central Arkansas Library System has launched an initiative to document and preserve Arkansass role in the Korean War. For too long this aspect of our nations history has been forgotten or obscured by other events. Even worse, the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has often been overlooked. We believe it is time to change that.
The Butler Center would like to solicit anyone's help in making sure that Arkansans who served in the war are not forgotten. We propose to honor our veterans by embarking on an aggressive campaign to seek out and preserve for future generations the documentary history of Arkansass role in the war. It is our intention to become Arkansass repository of information on the Korean War. To do this, we will need as much help as possible.
We are anxious to secure letters, photographs, diaries, etc. of Arkansass Korean War veterans. These pieces of history need to be preserved before they are lost. We are also very interested in conducting an oral history campaign to allow our veterans to share their memories with others. By interviewing and recording these heroes, we will enable future generations to actually hear from their past.
I am sure that everyone agrees that this is an important project; a project whose time has been long overdue. The Butler Center already serves as a storehouse of information on Arkansass role in the Civil War and World War II. Thus, it is only logical, and, indeed necessary, that we undertake the important task of preserving the documentary evidence of our countrys Forgotten War. We owe it not only to our veterans, but to future generations as well.
Please contact me if you can help us in our project.
Sincerely, Brian Robertson

Help needed for my uncle |

Larry Woody wrote on 2008-02-08 21:40:10.0
Comments: My uncle is just now starting to face and deal with things he has burried in his mind from Korea. So much he has forgotten. He remembers he was with 937th Field Artillery B Battery. He was there in '52 & '53. He earned the MOPH. 2 of his buddies last names were White, the other was Black. My uncles name is Jerry R. Leach and is from Tennessee. Many years ago I helped him get replacement medals. His ex-wife kept them when they divorced back in the 60's. If you can help or direct me in the right way, it will be deeply appreciated. Thank you.
