Comments: I just recently found this page. I enlisted in the National Guard in Fort
Smith in 1949. The unit was activated in 1950. I shipped to Korea with
Headquarters Battery and served seventeen months there. I was a
member
of the Battalion Survey Party and eventually became Chief of Party,
discharged with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Korea
has to be one of the coldest places in the world. When I shipped home I
went to Arkansas State College, Jonesboro, and never moved back to
my
home town. Haven't really had contact with anyone in the outfit since. I
am a retired college professor living in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Did anyone ever write a credible history of the 937th in Korea?

ARKANSAS KOREAN WAR PROJECT

Comments: The Butler Center for Arkansas Studies of the Central Arkansas Library System has launched an initiative to document and preserve Arkansass role in the Korean War. For too long this aspect of our nations history has been forgotten or obscured by other events. Even worse, the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has often been overlooked. We believe it is time to change that.

The Butler Center would like to solicit anyone's help in making sure that Arkansans who served in the war are not forgotten. We propose to honor our veterans by embarking on an aggressive campaign to seek out and preserve for future generations the documentary history of Arkansass role in the war. It is our intention to become Arkansass repository of information on the Korean War. To do this, we will need as much help as possible.

We are anxious to secure letters, photographs, diaries, etc. of Arkansass Korean War veterans. These pieces of history need to be preserved before they are lost. We are also very interested in conducting an oral history campaign to allow our veterans to share their memories with others. By interviewing and recording these heroes, we will enable future generations to actually hear from their past.

I am sure that everyone agrees that this is an important project; a project whose time has been long overdue. The Butler Center already serves as a storehouse of information on Arkansass role in the Civil War and World War II. Thus, it is only logical, and, indeed necessary, that we undertake the important task of preserving the documentary evidence of our countrys Forgotten War. We owe it not only to our veterans, but to future generations as well.

Please contact me if you can help us in our project.

Sincerely,
Brian Robertson

Comments: My uncle is just now starting to face and deal with things he has burried in his mind from Korea. So much he has forgotten. He remembers he was with 937th Field Artillery B Battery. He was there in '52 and '53. He earned the MOPH. 2 of his buddies last names were White, the other was Black. My uncles name is Jerry R. Leach and is from Tennessee. Many years ago I helped him get replacement medals. His ex-wife kept them when they divorced back in the 60's.
If you can help or direct me in the right way, it will be deeply appreciated. Thank you.

CITY AND STATE: CHARLESTON AR

UNIT: 937TH

SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON

Comments: Hello! A large number of concerned citizens, as well as the Charleston City Government, are very interested in restoring the M40 Self Propelled Gun that the City has in its possession. We are told that there are only 5 left in existence, one of those being here in Charleston.

It is now located at Charleston Lake Park, which is located off of the main Highway that runs through town. Our intention is to restore it and put it on display along Highway 22 for all to see!

If you are interested in this project, please let me know. We need to hear from people like you, to get first hand knowledge of how this piece of equipment operated! Any information you can forward on would be most appreciated!!

Also, if you would like to donate your time on this restoration project, please let me know.

In addition, we would like to plan a 937th reunion for those who served in the Korean War...Let me know if you would be willing to support this!

Thanks so much! We are very much appreciative of your valiant bravery!

Comments: I was connected to Service Battery from Mena Arkansas. A Battery was also from Mena, Arkansas.
I rotated back to the States in April 1952. I had served with Service Battery before they were mobilized in the summer of 1950.I was in the regular army for a year and then rejoined the 937th in Korea in the Spring of 1951.
We had a group of wonderful people in our unit, I still see several of them when I go to Mena, Arkansas.

Comments: I am looking for anyone who served in "A" battery from 1952 to 1953.
I started out as canoneer at the guns and ended up in Fire Direction. From what I read now things have changed dramatically, from slide rules to computers.

What happened to the 937th? Is it still in existence?
