I am writing a book that includes discussion of General Ridgway's 21 Jan 51 memorandum/order entitled "Why We Are Here." The general excerpts this memo in both of his books: In "Solider: The Memoirs of Matthew B. Ridgway, pages 207-08; and in "The Korean War," pages 264-65. But neither version (which are identical to one another) reflect the length and precise language of the original, which was first distributed to his commanders, then down the chain of command. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service Between August 3 thru Nov 2, 1950. He was on various outposts and directed military and civilan evacuation.
