Comments: My Dad served with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 8th Calvary Regiment and was severly wounded on 09/16/50. He operated a Browning Automatic Rifle and as of 05/02/01 is still kicking. His unit was destroyed at Unsan on November 6, 1950. He has only met one person from his unit, and this was just this year. Myself, I served with the US Army in Panmunjom with 4th Platoon, United Nations Command Joint Security Force, Joint Security Group 1983-1984.

Comments: SFC. James P. Shunney was my cousin. He was from Woonsocket, RI. He joined the army in 1948 at Ft.Devens, MA., at the age of 17. He was due to leave Japan in July of 1950, but went with the 8th Cav. to South Korea in July instead. He was Seriously Wounded in Action near Ka-san on 5Sept50, and returned to duty on 15Oct.50. He was RA with a MOS 02745, Light Infantry Leader. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the Chinese near Unsan, North Korea on 02Nov50. He was presumed dead on 31Dec.53. He was awarded th Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster. I am trying to find all I can about Jim's service to his country so that his nieces and nephews will always remember that he died for them. Thanks to all who served our country in that vicious war.
