8610 ASA Field Station 1955-57

Comments: Woul like to hear from guys that remember me from those days.

Keywords: I was a DF Operator and Trick Chief for the 8610th from Aug, 1955 to September 1957. Played on the fast pitch softball team where we won the Far East Championship in Korea in 1957 (we were undefeated that year) I also played quarterback on the flag football team and the tackle team that beat the Japanese All Stars in our bowl game Christmas, 1956.

8610 DU (AAU) Kyoto

Comments: A DF Intercept Operator at 8610 in Kyoto from 1954 to 1956. A brief interlude in 1955 on TDY to Kumamoto. Another sojourn away from 8610 in 1956 while on loan to UN Hq. in Tokyo. In and out of Oji on numerous occasions. In later years worked in the American Embassy in Tokyo for ten years and lived not far from Oji.

Kyoto Blues Basketball Team 1954,55,56

Comments: Would enjoy hearing from any of the guys I served with and played ball with. Some of the men were Frank Casey, Ray Brooks, Ivan Lamb, Bob Meyers, Stu Tomlinson, Moose Ferries, Carl Cope. Also anyone else from the company who remembers me.

HQ ASAPAC - 8621st AAU

Comments: I think confusion exists about unit designations, in some of the messages I read. The 8610th AAU was at Kyoto (126th). Later this outfit was redesignated the 326th CRC and sent to Korea. We were located on route 3A, just North of Seoul. Uijongbu was about 15 miles north of the 326th, also on or near route 3A HQ ASAPAC had the designation - 8621st AAU, and it was located near Oji-cho, in Kita-ku, Tokyo. I served at HQ ASAPAC from Aug 1951 to Sep 1952, and at the 326th from Sep 1952 to Jun 1953. I was a DF plotter and evaluator. The 501st Hq was located in the city of Seoul, in the ruined building of a school, not in Uijongbu.

Edward Hosey

Comments: My father, Edward W. Hosey, who served in ASAPAC 1951-52, including at Oji, died April 15 in Buffalo, NY, at age 75, of a stroke he suffered the day before. While it took him years to tell my mother or any of us kids even the very basics of his service, he was always very proud to have served in the ASA. Indeed, last yeat, he finally started attending ASA reunions with his wife, Sheila, and really enjoyed himself. His trick sergeant, Donald Nice, was one of Dad's pallbearers, a great honor, as were the military burial ceremonies. If anyone knew my father, feel free to e-mail me at KJHosey@adelphia.net. More on 1st Tokyo Arsenal

Comments: Boy, am I embarrassed. I had the info. I have been trying to find right here. When I lived in Tokyo I bought some used books and also a set of old maps. They had been tucked away and overlooked, but I stumbled across them shortly ater posting my original message asking about the 1st Tokyo Arsenal. On my several trips to Oji to find it, I just never walked far enough from Oji station. Memeories fade and I remembered it being just a few blocks, but it is more than 1/2 mile from Oji sta., actually quite a bit closer to Jyujo sta. on the JR Saikyo line. Anyway, it is now the Rikujyou Jiaitai Jyujou Chi Tonchi or Ground Defense Forces Jyujou Base. The on-line map I use shows the buildings. I wonder if they are the original ones. 1st Tokyo Arsenal

Comments: I arrived at the Tokyo Arsenal (we never heard it called "1st" or Oji Camp) in December, 1951. Then after a few days, on to the 326th, later 329th Comm. Recon. Co. near Yonchon. I was an Intercept Operator, MOS 3717? 1717? Anyway, since then I have visited Japan quite a few times and I lived in Tokyo from 1985 to 1994. I went to Oji several times trying to find the Arsenal with no success. I imagine it's long gone, replaced by hi-rise apartments. Nonetheless I still want to find the spot again when I go back next May. If anyone has a map showing where it was and can scan it and e-mail it to me, I will be grateful. Comments: Served in in the ASA in Korea from Feb, 1955 to March 1956. Most of the time stationed with the 501st at Ouijonbu.

Comments: When I went from Korea to Japan, I went to the First Tokyo Arsenal and then to the 8610 AAU Fld. Sta. We were in Tokyo just a few days before going by train to Kyoto. This was in Aug. of 1951. While with the 8610 we won the 6 man football championship in our area. Great bunch of guys, especialy our quarterback, Pete Noonan. The teams in the area then combined to make up an 11 man team. We played in the All-Japan-All Star game in the First Kyoto Bowl. The Japanees won. It was still a great game and banquet afterwards. I played center and was beat up pretty much. We also had a baseball team. I was one of the pitchers. We practiced on a ball field around the corner from the barracks. I had a green jeep that had a metal top and doors. I sold it to one of the guys when I left. His wife was coming over, and he needed it. All I have to say is you all were a great bunch of buddies. I live in Wichita,Ks. and would like to hear from anyone that was over there.

Many of my close friends in basic training went on to Korea and I would like to reach anyone that recognizes my name. After basic training I was transferred to Alaska where I served over two years.

Comments: We arrived in Tokyo in May 1952, processed thru Camp Drake and assigned to ASA HQ Pacific at the Tokyo Arsenal before being transfered to a permnant assignment at the 8610 AAU, ASA Fld Sta.,in Momoyama, Japan. Replaced by the 326th Comm Recon Company in Momoyama, the 8610 moved to its new facilities in Fukoksa, Japan. I would like to hear from anyone who served there, particularily the following: Donald P.
