85TH ORDNANCE REUNION |
| NORMAN (PETE) DANKER wrote on June 1, 2008 City and State: EL CAJON CA Unit: 85TH ORDNANCE CO. Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN Comments: Kudos and many thanks to Dallas Waterfill and others who orchestrated this reunion. I sincerely wish that I had been able to attend to reacquaint myself with these fine men who served in my unit in Viet Nam. I enjoyed the pictures and, even though most were not identified, recognized a few as being old friends. (Was that Former CO Jim Erickson in the Hawaiian shirt?) It was especially touching to see the guys involved in ceremony. This scene reminded me of why I volunteered for service; that there still exists a level of patriotism and love of country I share with you. I love you all and God bless each and every one. | DEBORAH METZ wrote on March 28, 2008 City and State: CHIPLEY FL Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My Dad is living in Ohio and I just recently began to learn more about his Army time in Korea and Chosen reservoir. I was doing genealogy, trying to find info., stumbled on the Chosin sites and remembered the magazine (The Chosin Few) Dad has laying around. I then realized Dad had been THERE! Only stories Dad tells is about finding things for the people who mentioned something was needed, or fixed or pushed out of the way. I do not know much more. Just 3 weeks ago, discovered he had received 3 Combat Bronze Stars. No idea for what. My Dad is Edwin "Pete" Metz, Army 85th Ord.MM Company. Enlisted Sept. 21, 1948 in Akron, Ohio (Dad is from West Virginia-has always hunted) Served 3 years and Separated 5/26/1952 - Ft. Bliss, Texas. He had a brother in the Marines, that was also at Chosen, Robert METZ. I do not know anything about him. He was killed in a Motorcycle accident before the birth of his only child in about 1955. Does any one recognize the name, Ed "Pete" METZ. I am trying to get Dad interested in a reunion or something. He has given me some of his Korean War books. Or can tell me more about what one may have done to receive Combat Bronze Stars and why one would serve an extra year as an "involuntary extension". Thank you, Deborah Keywords: Edwin "Pete" METZ, 85th ord.MMCompany |
