841ST EAB, C COMPANY |
| MILLARD JOHN WALTERS SR. wrote on January 15, 2011 CITY AND STATE: CUMMING GA UNIT: C COMPANY, 841ST EAB SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: I served in the 841st EAB in Korea, first at Osan and later at Kunsan, from fall 1952 to fall 1953. I was Company Commander of C Company during the latter part of 1953. While at Osan my primary job was running the rock crusher operation, first on the night shift (very cold) and later on day shift. We had a very smart group of non-coms who came from very diverse backgrounds (races and ethnicity) and it was a pleasure to work with them. The fact that Osan Airfield is still in operation speaks to the quality of the work. I understand that President Obama was just there, Keywords: my best friends were Lt. 841ST EABN RECOLLECTIONS |
| FRED DICKERT wrote on June 25, 2010 CITY AND STATE: FREEHOLD NJ UNIT: 841ST EABN SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: After basic training and armorer school at Ft. Dix, I was sent to K8 Air Base, Kunsan Korea, and became a member of the 841st, to work as an armorer, repairing weapons. I believe this was late February or early March 1954. On the first evening with the 841st, the new arrivals (I think about 40 of us) gathered for a meeting with the First Sergeant and officers of the unit. One of them, the Personnel Officer, a Warrant Officer named "Ridley", and a very smart man, spoke and said that there were a number of the new arrivals (paraphrase) that in civilian life did something other and better than what the army had trained us to do. If so, please speak with him and "perhaps we can do something for each other". Well I did, and 3 days later, while repairing the trigger mechanism on an M1, I was told that I will be working in the pharmacy at the base Air Force hospital. The Air Force Pharmacist, a Sergeant named Sid Johnson, was very happy to see me, and even happier when he saw that I knew what I was doing, and he could go on R and R. I came back to the USA to Beale AFB with the 841st in February 1955, and worked in the base hospital pharmacy till my separation in September 1955, when I went back to college. Keywords: |
