BRIEF HISTORY OF 822ND ENGINEER AVIATION BATTALION |
| EARL TUTT LAMBERT wrote on April 13, 2008 CITY AND STATE: LOVELAND OH UNIT: CO. C, 822ND EAB SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: I am in the process of writing a brief history of the 822nd Enginer Aviation Battalion based on the diary of Captain W.S. Bradshaw of Co. C. The daily entries began on Okinawa when the unit was alerted for deployment to Korea, dated 11 Jul 50. The diary continues until Captain Bradshaw was exavuated to Japan on 18 Sep 50 where he died of polio. An unidentified soldier in H/S company continued the diary until 22 Oct 51. The diary was in the possession of Major John Herina, a former C.O. of the battalion. He passed away in 2004 and his son, Marc Herina, loaned the keepsake to me in hopes of producing a more concise history of the unit. A second source for the history is from the recollections of former C Company platoon leader, Col. John Munnelly who is assisting with the identification of many former unit members. Lt. (then) Munnelly served in the unit from 1950-1952 in C Company. Any former member of the 822nd who has materials, photos or memories that they wish to share with the writer, please contact me at my email or phone: 513- 683-0027. I was a Sgt. with C Company from Aug 51 to Aug 52. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Erl Tutt Lambert Keywords: 822nd Enginer Aviation Battalion, K-2, Taegu, Pusan, Okinawa, 1950-1955 |

| SANDRA HARVEY wrote on April 12, 2002 CITY AND STATE: LOUDON TN UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: Hello, my name is Sandra Turbeville Harvey and my father Farrell Turbeville was in the 822 Engr. Bn. Co. C, in Taegu, Korea. This was in 1951 and 52 I think. I have been trying to find out what happened to some of the people he served with...one incident that happened was when they were grading a new road and came under fire...he ended up driving what he called a deuce and a half to pick up some wounded. One of which was a young black man that had been shot in the rear...but before they could reach safety he hit a land mine and the truck exploded...Dad said they both survived but while he was in the hospital before they sent him home he refused the medal they offered him saying "give it to someone really wounded." I would appreciate if anyone remembers this to send me an email or call... Dad has had a stroke and although he can't remember day to day things he remembers his time over there... Thanks Sandra Keywords: Taegu, Korea 1951-52 |
