Looking for information on Choe Ik Song from 1951

Comments: Dear Forum,

I am currently at work in Seoul for the next 5 months and trying to find one of my father's Korean War Army friends, Choe Ik Song (Mr. Song). My father was stationed 822 EAB w/SCARWAF in Pusan where Mr. Song was also stationed.

I have Mr. Song's mailing address from 1951:

CHOE IK SONG (looks like he wrote Sang, but then made the 'a' into an 'o') Ro Pyung Goo 59 Sasottum Oochuguk Pusan, Korea My father passed away last year so many of the good stories are not at my finger tips. If any one has any information on Mr. Song, please let me know as it would be such a blessing to find this man and reunite him with old pictures.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Most Sincerely, Jamie

Brief History of 822nd Engineer Aviation Battalion

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Earl Tutt Lambert wrote on 2008-04-13 13:33:21.0

Comments: I am in the process of writing a brief history of the 822nd Enginer Aviation Battalion based on the diary of Captain W.S. Bradshaw of Co. C. The daily entries began on Okinawa when the unit was alerted for deployment to Korea, dated 11 Jul 50. The diary continues until Captain Bradshaw was exavuated to Japan on 18 Sep 50 where he died of polio. An unidentified soldier in H/S company continued the diary until 22 Oct 51.

The diary was in the possession of Major John Herina, a former C.O. of the battalion. He passed away in 2004 and his son, Marc Herina, loaned the keepsake to me in hopes of producing a more concise history of the unit.

A second source for the history is from the recollections of former C Company platoon leader, Col. John Munnelly who is assisting with the identification of many former unit members. Lt. (then) Munnelly served in the unit from 1950-1952 in C Company.

Any former member of the 822nd who has materials, photos or memories that they wish to share with the writer, please contact me at my email or phone: 513- 683-0027.

I was a Sgt. with C Company from Aug 51 to Aug 52. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question about the runway construction

Tai Kwon wrote on 2005-08-21 00:00:00.0

Comments: I served as a Korean interpreter at Co."A", 822nd Aviation Engineering Bn, from 1950 to 1953. We paved runways at K-2 at Dongchon, suburb of Taegu, also at K-9 at Suyoung, suburb of Pusan, and also at K-6 at Pyongteck.

My question to anyone who can answer is this. Why did they pave the runway with prefabricated metal sheets with a bunch of round holes? Why didn't they just pour the concrete?

Hello! My name is Jamie Fletcher,
and I am a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My father,
Don Fletcher, is a Korean War Veteran and has been avidly trying over
the past forty-some years to reach his associates and friends from his
military years.

He was in the Army Engineering Corps attached to the Air Force, known
as SCARWAF- 822nd Engineer Aviation Batallion. In 1951 and early 52',
they were located at Air Base K-2, near Tagu. They then went to the air
base at Pusan, built US Coast Guard Manned Laran Master Station,
Coast of Japan Sea near Hyaundi.

In fall of 1952, they moved to Marine fighter strip near Seoul, then
rotated stateside and out of service. In A-Company, construction
platoon, Brian Paulson was the platoon leader.

My family has been in search of this man, if anyone has any information,
please contact me as soon as possible. If there are any 822nd vets out
there, please let me know!!!

With much respect and admiration- Jamie Lynn Fletcher
