Comments: In 1950 I started to Korea with the 78th AAA Bn on the General William Black. We lost power in a storm and was towed first to yokohoma Japan and then to Sasabo. After about two weeks the 78th proceeded to Korea on a L.S.T.. I went with a 3/4 ton on a Japanese tug. While leaving in 1951 I noticed the General William Black in port. If anyone has memories of the trip to Korea on that ship please contact me.

Comments: Marvin W. Head, 70, attempting to prove a VA disablity claim. He's incompetent now and unable to help himself. Army records show he had MOS of 1602 (Gunner) and was in B Btry, 78th AAA Gun Btln from 1 Sep 51 to 24 Jan 52. After two weeks in Tokyo Hosp., he was in Btry C, 32nd (typo?)AAA Auto Weapons Btln from 3 Feb 52 to 18 July 52. Finally, he was in Btry B, 507th Automatic Weapons Btln. from 19 July to 26 Sept 52. The question is this: Were any of these units engaged in combat during these periods? Did they experience shelling? If you were there, please call or email me with your experience. I will prepare an affidavit for your signature and notification and it will be filed with Marvin's VA claim. Thanks for any assistance.

Comments: This is just a thanks to all those who fought in the forgotten war. There are still many of us who appreciate your efforts. I am certainly one of them. Although I never did serve in the military, my 21 years in law enforcement gives me an idea of your sacrifice. MY father is Tilman Williams. He served in the 78th and went to Korea on the Gen Black. He has had some weak moments and told me some of his stories, but anyone that might remember any other stories concerning him and his running mates, I would certainly love to hear about. Again, thanks for your sacrifices for the rest of us.

Comments: My father, Russell S. Parsons, served in Korea from 1951-1953. At first he was in infantry and later on he was with Brty D 78th AAA Gun Bn. He was 18 at the time he enlisted. If anyone remembers him please contact me. I am trying to get his discharge changed to a Purple Heart before he dies. The scars on his shoulder back and leg do not count. I mean, they cannot be considered proof. He was hit by scrapnel. He was at the gun, others managed to jump off the truck but, the man driving was killed at the time they came under attack. Dad was taken to a field hospital for a few days and then sent back to the front. The paperwork didn't follow him (?) and he went home a short time (months at most) later. If he was hand carrying any documents they vanished when his bag was stolen at port stateside. From Port he went to Camp Breckenridge, KY were he was given an Honorable Discharge. I need some one who saw him wounded, transported to the field hospital, or recovering from the wounds to write a letter for him. Dad's memory is going because of fluid on his brain. He may undergo surgury soon. Thank you.

Dear Sir,
I am trying to locate men who served in the 78th AAA Gun Battalion
Battery A.
My father, Capt. Robert (Bob) W. Hemenway was the battery
commander at the time of his death. He left for Korea in Feb.1953.
I was born May 1953, and he was killed June 1953. I never knew
him, but I have been trying to find out about his life in Korea,
especially the last 10 days. It seems he wrote my mom everyday until
June 14, 1953. Suddenly the letters stopped, and then came the telegram
advising us of dad's death.
Anyone who served under him, please contact me. I know the
circumstances of his death and have read the reports. I just need
the truth. Mom is 78 and dying of bone cancer, she deserves to
know the whole truth about the last 10 days and what really
happened. Only these men will know.
Several men I have names for: Lt. Col. Earl Gooding, Lt. Stephens,
Lt.Hazel, Sgt. or maybe Lt. Squarles.
Please help me with this.

of the 78th. who may be able to know the circumstances of her fathers
death.
We have had 5 reunions with formembers of the 78th. The last one was
held this past October in Minneapolis. There were about 120 members at
this reunion. I know Pam has been in touch with you, she also told me
to write to you.
Can you give me any information or E mail address, so I can contact
the National Personell center in St. Louis, Mo. I would like to get a
morning reports of two outfits that I served in.
Thank you for your time and help,
