Comments: My sons and I are putting together a memorial display (pictures, patches, etc.) for my wife's father Elmer (Al) Reich who served in Korea during 52-53. I beleive he was a truck driver but also saw action. His recollection is that he was part of the Fourth Army. Can anyone give me some ideas about what patches I could buy for the display?
His recollection is that they jumped (was the unit airborne?) in to reinforce a Marine unit that was either surrounded or outnumbered. He also tells stories about after basic going to a ski resort in Washington state that was owned by one of his buddies in basic prior to shipping out.
Anyone recall Al Reich from Chicago?

Comments: Please note, I have changed my e-mail address to Jsapp73@earthlink.net. My Dad served in Korea from Jan. 52 to May 53. Dad was with Battery A. He recently told me a story about the time they moved his gun up toward the front lines to shell NK bunkers across the Han river. His gun and gun crew, a 50 cal. crew and a mess crew. For about 2 weeks. Talked about a NK gun that started lobbing shells toward their position. After a shell hit about 200 yards away, the next two shells hit at the same point. Lucky for everyone that the NK gun was at max range. First time I heard this story. Hope someone from Dad's unit reads this and contacts me. He is interested in contacting his Comrades from his time in Korea. Thank You!!

My Dad is getting together more information concerning his time in Korea. He came ashore at Inchon and was stationed near an Air Force Base near the Han River. At first I thought the AFB was Kimpo, but some of my research would indicate his unit was near Suwon AFB. If anyone served with my Dad, he and I would like to hear from you. Thank You.

I play the piano and remember while still in Inchon playing for the officers to dance with The nurses who came to our camp while still in Inchon. They were off a hospital ship like the "Hope" or another one. Not sure of name of the ship. Colonel Grandon was our commander while in Inchon before moving to Suwon. My closest friend while at the camp in Inchon was Dotson (cannot recall his first name) Mollee was one of the Korean girls who worked in the dining hall. Comments: I'm still looking for information regarding my dad's time in Attu. He was Sgt Elmer Gamboa, he was a boxer, played baseball, and loved to sing and play his guitar. May have gone by the nickname of Bro. I read an article in the 78th AAA Gun Battalion Reunion Times written by John R. Smith. Mr Smith was on Attu in the 40's and maybe knows something about my dad. I would like for John to write back and let me know his address or e-mail. Maybe he knows something about my dad. Any information would help. I have some pictures of my dads time on the Islands and would be willing to share copies with those who were there. I can be contacted at my e-mail address gamboas@sbcglobal.net or at my home address of 2448 Wayfarer Court Discovery Bay CA 94514.

After about two weeks the 78th proceeded to Korea on a L.S.T.. I went with a 3/4 ton on a Japanese tug. While leaving in 1951 I noticed the General William Black in port. Army records show he had MOS of 1602 (Gunner) and was in B Btry, 78th AAA Gun Btln from 1 Sep 51 to 24 Jan 52. After two weeks in Tokyo Hosp., he was in Btry C, 32nd (typo?)AAA Auto Weapons Btln from 3 Feb 52 to 18 July 52. Finally, he was in Btry B, 507th Automatic Weapons Btln. from 19 July to 26 Sept 52. The question is this: Were any of these units engaged in combat during these periods? Did they experience shelling? If you were there, please call or email me with your experience. I will prepare an affidavit for your signature and notification and it will be filed with Marvin's VA claim. Thanks for any assistance.

Dear Sir,
I am trying to locate men who served in the 78th AAA Gun Battalion

My father, Capt. Robert (Bob) W. Hemenway was the battery
commander at the time of his death. He left for Korea in Feb.1953.
I was born May 1953, and he was killed June 1953. I never knew
him, but I have been trying to find out about his life in Korea,
especially the last 10 days. It seems he wrote my mom everyday until
June 14, 1953. Suddenly the letters stopped, and then came the telegram
advising us of dad's death.
Anyone who served under him, please contact me. I know the
circumstances of his death and have read the reports. I just need
the truth. Mom is 78 and dying of bone cancer, she deserves to
know the whole truth about the last 10 days and what really
happened. Only these men will know.
Several men I have names for: Lt. Col. Earl Gooding, Lt. Stephens,
Lt.Hazel, Sgt. or maybe Lt. Squarles.
Please help me with this.
