| FRANK FIMMANO wrote on March 4, 2011 City and State: LANSDALE PA Unit: HQ BATTERY 773 AAA BATTALION Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN Comments: I was transfered to 773rd in 1952,went to Korea Oct. 1952 on the Gen. CC Balleau, picked up Puerto Rican and Columbian troops, went through the Panama Canal where they rioted on the pier (I came back the same way and a different group of Puerto Rican's and Columbians Rioted on the same pier). We were the AA protection for K55 airfield which was under construction at the time. I am one of the few people that actually saw Ted Williams crash land his Panther Jet on the new K55 runway! I am 81 years old and proud to have served. Frank, 3-4-2011 Keywords: K55, Osan, Gen. CC Balleau, Panama Canal |

Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN Comments: I was surfing the web, and wondered about the 773rd, and it shocked me to see that their was info about the group. I see Vince Gallagher has a comment and will try to talk to him. I still have close contact with Joe Zurla and I just heard from Jim McCann . Bruno Prunotto has passed away. I also heard that Al Denham passed away. Father Joe Dispensa and John Zurla also are gone. If anyone is still alive let me know. Vin. Keywords: |

I WAS IN 'C' BATTERY 773RD IN KOREA 52 AND 53 |
| VINCENT GALLAGHER SR. wrote on September 18, 2003 City and State: WAYNE PA Unit: C BTRY 773 AA Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I joined the 773rd AA Bn NYARNG in Sept. 1947. The umit was just re-activated after WWII at the 12th Regt. Armory located on West 62nd Street, NYC..I was 15 years old. I was in the Range Platoon. My graduation from High School coincided with the attack on South Korea in June 1950. After 6 months in College I chose to go to an Army service school at Ft. Bliss Texas January 1951. While there the unit was mobilized in May 1951 and upon my graduation from the lengthy Fire Control Electricians Course (AA) in Sept. 1951 I returned to the 773rd then in training at Camp Stewart, GA. Upon completion of training in March 1952 the 773rd was transferred to NYC as part of the Air Defense of the Greater New York Metro area. HHB was staioned in Ft. Hamilton Brookyln and the 4 firing Batteries were located at gun sites around Ft. Hamilton. C Btry was first emplaced at Cropsey Ave. close to Coney Island...we used orient our equipment on the Jump Tower in Coney Island. We were later relocated to Mill Basin on the Belt Pkwy. We were in NYC but lived under total field conditions..squad tents, latrines, field kitchens and bathed out of steel helmets. Periodic "Shower Trucks" were sent to Ft. Hamilton so that the troops could wash up. Sometime in the late spring or early summer of 52 our BC announced that the 773rd received orders for deployment to FECOM (Far East Command). We stencilled every piece of our equipment 90mm Guns, 50 Cal Quad Mts Radar, Diector Etc. with "9205B". The heavy equipment went by freightor..we went by Troopship....the destination unknown to us at the time was to be Pusan, Korea. Keywords: K55, Osan, Korea |
