Comments: I was stationed with C Co, 1/72 Armor, 2ND Inf. Div. 1972- 1973 as radio mechanic. Also because of my height, I went to the DMX twice a month and "walked the line" and maintained raidios up there. A truely crazy place! I only felt safe near Tongdushon and Camp Casey and further south.
I love South Korea, the people, their food and their culture.

Comments: My father passed away in 1994, and I was recently given a photo album from Korean War with his service records. Are there any veterans out there who served with him from 1950-1952 in Co. B. He was a tanker sergeant and was in 5 campaigns. He never really discussed the war, but when asked would simply say that it was "cold". I still miss him, and his humor, very much. Thank you.

Comments: November 1984: Three North Korean soldiers and one South Korean soldier die, and one American soldier is wounded during the firefight that erupted when a North Korean security detail chased a defecting Soviet citizen across the MDL into the southern-controlled sector of the Joint Security Area. REF> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_border_incidents_involving_North_Korea#1980s
I was in Korea for a time as a young man. The people were friendly if not contrite. I didn't know the history of my unit at the time but it was an honored one. I would say that it is still so today. Men and women that came before me and those that came after served with esprit de corps and dedication to duty, honor and defense. Young and old, Officer and Enlisted 11B (Grunt) to supply.
I was there the day That Pvt. Thomas Dean ran and jumped over the line to bring back a wounded man. Actually I was the SOG. Dean did so even after being ordered not to. He was a hero that day (I was pissed at him then). Yet there is little or no mention of his act. There are many stories of bravery, valor and selflessness throughout military history. Tom Deans is just another small but important act that American servicemen do every day (more so today in Iraq) that go unrecognized because of the current political climate what ever it may be.
BTW&.Tom was eventually honored&&.I got an AR15, something about having unauthorized equipment at the border (night vision, .50cal ammo, 5.56mm, TS-HH). Who cares we won the day.
To those of you looking for info on men or women that served in past wars, past occupations or current occupations, you may never know the whole truth. However, remember this, men or women that served in spots like this are and have always been dedicated to being professional, diligent soldiers. (Abu Grab aside

Comments: As a result of my mother's entry into a care center I have possession of a photo album from my father's service - training through return to the states on (I believe) the Gen. Collins into Frisco June 3,1952. I have some photos which carry annotations which I.D. the individuals in particular and many which do not, some which I may be able to I.D. by cross referencing but a surviving member of this group could probably do this far more reliably, there are also general camp and country photos, shipboard (outbound on Gen. John Pope - 8/4/51 @ 180th Mer.) Would forward photo of your vet if can lock up positive I.D. or to group member for further distribution. My father was Ralph H. Hartung out of Nebraska.

I don't specifically remember very many names as that was over 55 years back but I'll never forget the experience, the particularly cold winter and the pitifully inadequate clothing.
Anyone out there who remembers, give me a shout!!!

Comments: I just want to say thank you to those of you who manage, maintain or write in to this site. My father, Lester (Chuck) W. Johnson passed away from Alzheimer's on April 22, 2006. Prior to his death, because of postings on this site, I was able to reunite him with Jim Ferraro. It was an amazing meeting! When they saw each other at my front door, they saluted, and both shed tears. As did everyone watching. We sat in the backyard and listened to the stories from all of the pictures on the table. It was quite chilling. I was sorry that I hadn't gotten the opportunity to introduce them earlier, as my father's Alzheimer's was in the early-mid stages at that point, and alot of his memories were already gone, and the names didn't come to him as quickly. For those of you searching for someone, don't give up. They are out there somewhere. Thank you.
