Comments: Was unaware of this site until I read a newspaper article extolling the contributions of the 65th Regiment. From my recollections, the claims made in that article are highly inaccurate; however that is another matter. I am simply grateful that this site exists and sparked me to search memories I have not thought about for many years.
Keywords: Nickname: Doc Stock. Left Seattle aboard the Gen's. R. L. Howze, Dec. 1952 for Japan/Korea via Camp Drake and USS Marine Serpent to Inchon. Served thru truce and late into 1953. Areas encountered during time in Korea include arrival at Inchon, then to Chunchon by truck in the middle of the night (with lots of artillery sounds and flashes to light up the sky). Later to Hwachon, Tokoli Ri, Koje Do (to guard Prisoners of war), Chipori, Inje, Kumwha, Chorwon, Seoul and Pusan. Have many pictures of friends made during that time and often wonder what became of them.

Comments: Response to Antonio de La Cruz
There is no truth to Mr. Cruz remarks. At no time in the report or the newspapers articles on the 65th was there any mention of the "65th being used as "cannon fodder" while the rest of the 3rd Division let Puerto Rican-Americans take casualties, etc.
It appears Mr. Cruz thinks a report by the Army's Center of Military History, which is the foundation for the newspapers articles, was written by a pseudo-historian. I hardly think so. The Center is a highly respected government agency.
Anyone interested in reading the report, including Mr Cruz, can access the report on www.prari.org

Comments: I was in the communication platoon of EASY co from March of 53 till shortly after the truce on 27 July. We moved back to our original campsite that we were at back in March. I think of my fallen buddys quite often. Two were especially close to me ,and both were killed in action on the same day. One was named Antonio Nogerra we called him "cookie",and the other was Frankie, he was from Guam. He used to Play my guitar left handed. He taught me a Japanese army song that he learned from the Japanese during WW2 when they occupied Guam. Cookie taught me to play the National anthem of Puerto Rico onthe guitar. and finally my company comander Lt Cavasos I shall never forget him. Does anyone remember me? I'm the guy that played the guitar and got a little telescope for my 22nd birthday in June, and spotted a Chinese observer in a cave across that valley we were overlooking. I"m sorry I got carried away.

Comments: You can email someone at the National Guard via this website (http://www.ngb.dtic.mil) to have prints mailed to you or you can save a copy of the image to your computer and create the photo yourself in any photo software or even open it in MS Paint.
To save go to http://www.ngb.dtic.mil (national guard website), under the "Image Collection" click "Heritage Series". The Borinqueneers photo is in the middle. You can click to view a larger picture along with the text of the story. If you right click the image, you can "save picture as" then open it in paint or whatever photo software you may have. You can save/download the file (photo and text)as well by right clicking on the smaller version of the photo and "save target as".
Hope this helps.

Comments: I'M WRITING THIS IN REGARDS TO MY GRANDFATHER. I AM NOT SURE IF MY GRANDFATHER SERVED IN THE 65TH INFANTRY. MY GRANDFATHER'S NAME WAS LUIS BONILLA VARGAS. HE WAS FROM YAUCO, PUERTO RICO. MY FATHER WAS HIS ONLY SON. MY FATHER WAS ONLY 3-5 YEARS OLD WHEN MY GRANDFATHER WAS KILLED. MY FATHER HAS NO MEMORIES OF HIS FATHER. MY GRANDFATHER DIED IN YAUCO IN NOVEMBER 2, 1947. HE WAS KILLED WHEN A BUS HIT HIM AS HE WAS GOING TO SCHOOL. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN HE CAME HOME FROM THE WAR MY GRANDFATHER WAS ALWAYS DRESSED WITH HIS ARMY UNIFORM. MY FATHER HAS JUST ONE PICTURE OF MY GRANDFATHER. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE GRANDFATHER I NEVER NOR MY FATHER GOT TO MEET. MY GRANDFATHER HAD 51 BROTHERS AND SISTERS (NO KIDDING) AND WAS BORN IN LAS PELAS, SUSUA BAJA, YAUCO, PUERTO RICO.

Our special guest will be Carlos Romero-Barcelo, the Puerto Rican Representative in Washington, DC. We hope to have as many members of the 65th in attendance as possible.
If anyone would like more information on the associated events, please call 800-646-0939, x234. You can also send me an e-mail at Lisa803@aol.com. We would love to see as many friends and veterans of the 65th Infantry Regiment as possible.

Comments: Hello, I am the nephew of 2 uncles (Familia Flores) who served with the 65th Infantry (Borinquenners) during the Korean War. Their health prevents them both from attending September and October's ceremonies in Arlington, VA and Puerto Rico (Respectively). I would like to honr them by presenting them with a artist print of the Borinqueneers Heritage Series painted by J. Andrea in 1992 that illustrates the great battle that the Borinqueneers were engaged in against the Chinese in Feb 1951. Does anyone know how I can purchase this painting? Your assistance is appreciated. I can be contacted via email: MUGSYUSMC@aol.com

Comments: My father served in the 65th infantry division in Korea. He also served in Japan, North Africa, Germany, and France, during WW II. He is now 76, and as much as I would liked to know about the wars he served in, he doesn't like to talk about it. I would like to find out more about my father's experiences in the army. He was in the communications division and from what I know, he never was ranked because he was too stubborned. He liked to gamble with his GI buddies. I would appreciate if anybody who knows my father could send me a note. Old pictures or letters would also be deeply appreciated. Next month is his 50th wedding anniversary and I would like to do something special for them. He is originally from Cayey, Puerto Rico. I also remember my father having lots of medals, all of which are lost. I would like to know what they meant.
