Clyde Stanfield 1950 Korea with Company C, 65th Combat Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division

Comments: I am looking for anyone who may have served with my father Clyde Stanfield in Company C, 65th Combat Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division during the Korean War in 1950. My father passed away in April of 2009 and for the first time within a year of his death he briefly spoke about the horrific details of being overrun by the Chinese and North Koreans at a northern position his unit was holding. This was the only time that I remember my father crying and it was evident that he was terribly shaken by describing the event as the only time that he truly feared for his life. I believe it was during the night and in the chaos of his unit being overtaken he and another man had to jump off what he described as a mountainside to escape. He didnt know if he would survive the fall but he remembered taking that chance as opposed to facing what he was witnessing as certain death. Many men were lost in this ordeal and it wasnt until the next day that my father found the remainder of our forces once again. Since my fathers passing, I have been researching Company C, 65th Combat Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division during this time of the Korean War and I have found that they took significant losses when they were overrun at a position near Hill 222 which is south of the Kuryong River and east of the Camels Head bend. If anyone knew my father during his service or knows of this particular event, please contact me. Thank you.

I inherited his footlocker and have been going through it with his grand children, (They never had the chance to meet him). Found several photos, with names written on the back. Several were taken at a Caompany party in August of 52 on Okinawa. Alexander,McGhee,Hawkins,Smith,Campbell,Lyons,Krakoviac,Lt O'Dell I was just wondering if any were still around.

Hello,

I am a Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Service Officer in Yorktown VA. I am trying to assist a fellow veteran in his claim.

Mr. Phillip Fostic was in Co"A" 65th Engr Comm BN 1950-1953.

The problem with Mr. Fostic he is one of the veteran's who's records were destroyed in the 1973 fire.

He has been denied VA treatment because he cannot establish he was in Korea, even though his DD 214 clearly shows he was there.

If your father and any of his fellow veterans can help, it would be greatly APPREICATED.

Thank you

Looking for 1947 father's army buddy; McBride from Utah

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Grace Doyle wrote on 2008-07-16 18:47:05.0

Comments: Looking for a man named McBride who served in the army with my father. He would be between 79 and 81 years old now. My father is not well right now and talks often of how he wished he could make contact with a former army buddy. The details my father remembers are listed below:

McBride from Provo, Utah (or possibly Salt Lake City, Utah.) DONT KNOW A FIRST NAME.

May have attended college in Provo around 1947.

He and my father, Ed Doyle (aka Shorty aka Curly aka Irish) were in the army together. They served in:

65th Combat Engineers Battalion; 25th Division. (Lightning patch on sleeve.)

Stationed in Osaka, Japan at the Kanoka Barracks from 1946-1947.

McBride and my father were discharged the same day, December 12th, 1947. They took a boat to California, then took a train together to Utah. My father continued on to the Northwood, ND area where he lived.

He and McBride promised to keep in touch. McBride wrote to my father, but my grandmother threw the letter away before my father could read it. (That's another story.)

Other information that may be helpful:

The army records from this era were lost in a fire. Ive even gone to Washington, D.C. to the military records office trying to find out information via that route and hit a dead end.

If you know anything about this McBride, please please contact me in Montana! Thank you so much. Grace Doyle

He and two others were awarded the Bronze Star for clearing ememy mines while under hostile enemy fire (he dosen't recall their names, except that one happened to be a bulldozer operator). He is alive and well and living in Tampa, Fla. He will be 76 next month. He would love to hear from, get any information from, or about his comrades that he served with.
