Comments: Today at 1300 hour on the 14 July 1950 three miles south west of the city of Kong-ju east of the Kum River near the village of Samgyo-ri we paid the price for the neglect of the Army by those penny pincher in Wasington DC and a over blown ego of some of the Army Officer in Japan.Where we lost 11 Officer 125 Enlisted men and most of our equipment. We had 23 KIA 24 MIA 89 POW. We lost 10 105 mm Howitzer and 80 trucks and jeeps in a bloody two hour that saw the Battalion over run. This is for my fallen brother some may forget what we did 58 years ago today but we few lucky one will always remember as we stood our ground and some gave all that they had to give as we bought time for help to arrive. We the living will say to those that did not make it R I P M B U A R Sign 40 Yards

Comments: The 24th division including the above units were deactived in 1950 after suffering many causulties resulting from North Korean's invasion of South Korea in June of 1950.
When manpower became available it was re activited including the 34th regiment and the 63rd FA battalion. When President Truman issued the order to break up all segregated army units, the reactived 34th Regiment along with the 63rd FA Battalion was redisignated the 5th Regimental combat team and in August 1951 a new 34th regiment and 63rd FA battalion was established using cadre from the 24th division. It spent a year in training at South Camp Fuji. In the fall of 1952 it returned to Korea. That ends my knowledge of the history of this unit. I submit it thinking it might be of help to those of you looking for information or person's who served in the unit.

Comments: I am a nephew of MSGT Kenneth H Stokes who was reported "killed in action" on 14 July 1950 while serving with the 63 FAB, 24th Infantry Division. Kenneth's body was never found and we have never known what happened to him. Did he die in battle that day? Did he die later as a POW? Is there anyone who can tell me about him, or give me some idea what happened to the 63rd FAB that terrible July which might suggest what his fate was.
My dad (Kenneth's brother) also told me that some reports (unconfirmed) may place his death as 27 Sep 1950
Can anyone help?
