Comments: Looking for anyone who may have known my father while he was in the US Army. He served in Korea and was injured by schrapnel at one point. He survived Korea and went on to become a paratrooper. He has since died (2/1/1990) but I wanted to have some additional information to include with my family scrapbooks.

Swearingen was in King Co...He was wounded on Sept.15, 1950, returned to his unit five days later and was KIA on hill 201 on Feb.22, 1951.I understand he was the "radio guy" at the time of his death. Any info about this unit and time frame will be appreciated..Thanks...Joanne Chmura

Comments: My granfather was in the 1st Calvary Division, 5th Calvary Regiment. I do not know the unit or platoon but he is still alive but his health is not good. There is a memorial being built in the town that I live in and on July 4th of this year there will be a dedication. He doesn't know about it yet and I have also found out about another medal he can receive and I have sent for it so I can give it to him at this dedication. I was hoping to find someone who may remember him from the war. He was sent to Korea in July 1952. I do not know exact dates. If you remember him please contact me.

Comments: Looking for members of Item co. who may have known my dad, Wayne Sonke. He never said much about Korea like many others, I suspect. My mom always kidded him about all the money she spent sending him wool socks while he was in Korea. He would just smile at her and say that in Korea wet feet could possibly kill you as fast as a bullet. It was their little joke between them. I am sure other troopers felt that way also, when their feet were cold and wet. I hope to hear from others who served in item co. Thanks to all of our veterans. Sincerely, Gary Sonke

 |
DY ANNA H. Giltner wrote on 2004-06-05 11:41:44.0
Comments: My brother, Jack K. Hendrickson, was wounded in an attack on "Bugle Hill" and was evacuated to 8063rd MASH. This was on Nov. 1, 1950, and he died on Nov. 3, 1950. His body was evacuated to the United Nations Military Cemetery outside Pyongyang, N. Korea. The bodies were not recovered during withdrawal and his remains are yet to be recovered. Jack had been stationed in Japan before the war and was in Company A, 1st Battalion, 5th Calvary Regiment, 1st Calvary Division. He was awarded several marksmanship medals while stationed in Japan. He was 17 when enlisted and turned 20 in July 1950 before being killed in Nov 1950. I am hoping I can locate someone who knew him during those years in Japan and anyone who was with him in Korea. I was so young when I last saw him and regrettably so much of his letters, etc. has disappeared during these long years. Our mother and father have both passed away, as well as our brother. I would like to have these memories to add to our families own.

He was the rank of seargant at the time he was hit which was I believe in September 1950. He was stationed in Yokasuka, Japan at the outbreak of the war and was a part of a rifle team shooting matches against other army posts. He mentioned having friends named Peach and Gomach. I think he would really like to hear from any of his comrades in arms.

Comments: I am trying to find information about my father's (Bernhard/Barney/Swede) experience in Korea. He was a MSG and was WIA on 10/4/51. As with a lot of vets, he never spoke of his experiences, only saying "we had a job to do". I want to pass on this information so this will not be forgotten. Any information about this unit/division would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
