Looking for Info on my Dad J E Lawrence

Comments: My Dad, J E Lawrence served in Korea at Chosin. He passed on 1/4/07. He was a Sgt and worked in the motor pool A Btry 57thFA BN 7thINF DIV. I am very interested in finding out any info that anyone can provide on his time (Nov-Dec 1950) at Chosin so that I may find out what these brave men went thru and that I can better understand my Dad. He rarely spoke of his time there but what little that was said was hard for us to hear and I'm sure even harder for him to say.

I have a roster from Nov-Dec 1950 that was provided to my Dad several years ago and would love to share it with anyone who is interested.

I would appreciate any help I can get in researching this awful time in so many people's life that affected them for the rest of their lives.

Thank you so much Vicky Young

Would like to here from anyone who may of known him and have information about where his unit was located during his time in Korea, what kind of duty did he have, etc. He died in 1967 when I was 12 years old and I never got a chance to hear about his time in the Army.

Comments: I never knew my uncle, but wondered what this 20 year old was like when he was captured and ultimately killed. I'm now twice his age...but I remain curious... my father always found it hard to talk about and tried to shield us from the real world when growing up. Later he just didn't talk about it much. But I know he loved his brother and called him the "best one."

Comments: I would like to first thank all the Korean War Veterans, I fee so deeply indebited to all of them for giving me, what is called freedom! I wouldn't be where I am today and that is: the awesome United States Of America. There's a very special place in my heart for all of you KWVsand especially for the ones that never made it back to the States. I would like to know if any soldier has ever been to Star of the Sea Orphanage and when. I've never connected to anyone that's ever been there personally except for the American Priest who was in charge of the orphanage whom I later in life met long after I'd been in the States. (He's passed on now) I miss home so much. This would give me a touch of home somewhat. I have both fond and painful memories of Inchon. I never did live long enough in Inchon to see other parts of Korea. I would really like to reminesse about the orphanage. Thanks again from the bottom of my heart to all the KWVs!!!! I love you all.

Comments: Thank you all Vets and families for your service and sacrifices!

I'd like to add a few tidbits that I missed in my earlier post today regarding Sgt. Len George. I just found a little newspaper article that spelled his name "Lendal". it also stated that he served as 8chief of section for the sixth section*, B Battery 57th Fa Bn, 7th Div.. "A section chief commands the 11 man gun crew maintaining one 195 millimeter howitzer during combat." The article was commending Dad because he was named by his commanding officer as American Red Cross Fund Campaign Chairman for B Battery and that because of the "hard work of such men as Sgt. George, 7th division is leading in contributions for the Korean Zone in the 1954 Red Cross campaign". *Another article quote: "Sgt. George says that his most memorable experience of the war occured during the week July 4 to 9, 1953, when his gun crew operated fired continuously without a cease fire."
