Comments: I'm looking for information on a PFC Wall. He served with my father John (Ski)Stefanski. I'm not sure if this is the right area for the unit my dad was in. I'm Air Force myself and just can't get the hang of Army structure. I do now the triple nickle was up higher on the hill where he was stationed. I'm not sure if the 5th was attached to the 555th or the other way around.

Comments: As my father spoke about the 5th he spoke highly of this unit, the triple nickle. He spent 23 years in the Army, two tours in Vietnam but he often said none of his years could compare to the time he spent in the 5th.He told me about the tough time and the good times, most were bad. He often took those toughts to sleep with him and when he woke they were gone for a short time. I loved him very much and will miss him daily. The thing I feel for is that he really was not rewarded, please someone help me to gather information..

I have pictures I would like to get to the 5th they are unit pictures 1949, E co.

Comments: Hello! To all my friends and buddies of the "Triple Nickel 555th Field Artillery" who served in Korea from 1952 to1953. I worked in the PX 555th Field Artillery Battalion Headquarters and met a lot of terrific guys while there. I'm proud to have served in the "Triple Nickel" and with you all. I've been trying to locate an old buddy who I served with, he was with the First Calvary but assigned to the "Triple Nickel" 555th Field Artillery Headquarters his name is Sgt. Richard Gilliam from Raleigh or Durham, North Carolina. I sure would like to hear that he and the other guys got home safe.

555 Field Artillery

From: Sam Stratton

I am making this inquiry on behalf of my father Glen T. Stratton.
We are trying to find an army soldier by the name of Percy
Mcbride from Seattle, WA.

He and my Father were good friends when they were in the Army
together. Here are the details. They arrived at Camp San Louis Obisbo,
CA in July of 1952 and had 8 weeks of basic training and then 8 weeks
of Signal Corp.

It ended in November of 1952 and in December of the same year
they were shipped to Japan and spent 6 to 8 weeks at Camp Eta Jema
(not sure aboutthe spelling) after that they went to Pusson and that
was the last time my Father saw him.

He believes he was sent to an artillery battalion. If it helps, My Father
was part of The 555 Field Artillery attached to the
5th Regimental Combat Team.

Please e-mail me with any information you have about Percy Mcbride.
Judging by the way my Dad talks about him he was pretty special.

Thank You very much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely
Sam Stratton sckstrat@pacbell.net

I am currently a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy and
my Father-in-Law was a Korean War Vet. I am trying to
find out if there is a current war historian in the
Hawaii area or do you have any information about the
555 Field Artillery Battalion (Triple Nickel)that was
part of the 5th regimental combat team. That was the
unit my Father-in-Law was attached to. Appreciate any
information you have available.

Have had no contact with anyone since leaving Korea. As an item of
interest, when we arrived at Puson on the General Haus, there was a
Brass Band to greet us, and the song they played was "If I knew you
were comming, I'd have baked a Cake".

Also, do your records have anything on a Bobby Z. Yankee from Tenn.
He was 17 when our Observation Post was hit by Artillary, I have
searched the Web but he is not listed.

I never heard if he lived after leaving the Aid Station. I have found our
Lieutenant (I think) now in Florida. He is Jerome J. Tenbieg, Clearwater,
Fl. 813-536-4874. I have never reached this number to confirm.

From KWP: Bobby was evacuated to Japan.

He recounts his long ride south with only a field jacket to fight the
cold in Dec/Jan. He was greatful for having a couple pairs of clean
socks to keep his feet dry and warm. He turned down LT bars to go home
at the end of 6 months tour. He retired in 1969 as S-SGM. His name is

My dad, James J. Hoffart Sr., was in the Korean War, He left Houston
and went to El Paso, Texas for training, then on to Korean with the
24th, and I am proud to say he was a part of the (Triple Nickel).

I have his old pictures from Korea, the ones that survived a house fire.

My dad is alive and well even after being wounded in Korea. He is 68
years old, still works 12 hours a day.

He is a good and strong man. He has six children that he loves. He
lost his wife after 40 years of marriage April 1996.
