Comments: I am looking for anyone who knew my uncle Harry Lee. Unfortunately my Uncle died in 1999. He didnt talk a whole lot about his experiences but he did share a few stories. We also have a few pictures and was wondering if any body out there would like to see them and identify the people in them. One picture in particular is of a young Korean Boy approximately 10 years old dressed in a assortmant of army hand me down cloths. My uncle said he was kind of like a unit mascot and after the unit was overrun he never saw him again. According to my Uncles DD214 he was assigned to the Service Battery Company. He was a truck driver and a welder and served from 1953 to 1954. He was wounded by sharpnel in the legs and stomache. He was from a small town in Missouri called Lutesville. Thank you for taking time to read this and God Bless you all and keep you in good health.

However, there was one story he would tell about the Native American soldier who saved his life who was nicknamed Pooch. We do not know his proper name. However, if you know of him or how we could reach him, we would be grateful to hear from you.

Comments: I found an article that stated "The Army today identified the 555th Field battalion as the American unit overrun by the Chinese on July 14----on the east central front. It was one of the worst massacres of Americans in the Korean war and second in Korea for the 555th Field Artillery battalion. The Battalion on July 14 was firing support for the ROK Capitol division defending a line between Kumhwa and Kumsong. About three divisions of Chinese hit the division about 9:45p.m., July 13. The line buckled and at 2:05 a.m. the Chinese assaulted the artillery battalion. The battalion came out with only five of its 105 howitzers. There were very heavy losses of personnel and equipment. The first time the Chinese swarmed over the battalion was Apr. 24, 1951, on the 38th parallel near Seoul. The battalion lost 11 of its howitzers."
This is a very old article and some of the print has been damaged, but, if you can identify with any of the information in this article, please contact my husband. He has some pictures of the his unit. He would love to hear from you.

555 Field Artillery
From: Sam Stratton
I am making this inquiry on behalf of my father Glen T. Stratton.
We are trying to find an army soldier by the name of Percy
Mcbride from Seattle, WA.
He and my Father were good friends when they were in the Army
together. Here are the details. They arrived at Camp San Louis Obisbo,
CA in July of 1952 and had 8 weeks of basic training and then 8 weeks
of Signal Corp.
It ended in November of 1952 and in December of the same year
they were shipped to Japan and spent 6 to 8 weeks at Camp Eta Jema
(not sure aboutthe spelling) after that they went to Pusson and that
was the last time my Father saw him.
He believes he was sent to an artillery battalion. If it helps, My Father
was part of The 555 Field Artillery attached to the
5th Regimental Combat Team.
Please e-mail me with any information you have about Percy Mcbride.
Judging by the way my Dad talks about him he was pretty special.
Thank You very much and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely
Sam Stratton sckstrat@pacbell.net

Have had no contact with anyone since leaving Korea. As an item of
interest, when we arrived at Puson on the General Haus, there was a
Brass Band to greet us, and the song they played was "If I knew you
were comming, I'd have baked a Cake".
Also, do your records have anything on a Bobby Z. Yankee from Tenn.
He was 17 when our Observation Post was hit by Artillary, I have
searched the Web but he is not listed.
I never heard if he lived after leaving the Aid Station. I have found our
Lieutenant (I think) now in Florida. He is Jerome J. Tenbieg, Clearwater,
Fl. 813-536-4874. I have never reached this number to confirm.
From KWP: Bobby was evacuated to Japan.
