My father, M/Sgt Glen V. Collins was assigned, as an MP, to that unit and was killed in an aircraft accident, 1 February 1954 when a flight he was on from Misawa AFB to Chitose AFB, crashed into the Sea of Japan with all hands lost. I served in Korea with 2nd Inf. Div. 97-98 and with the First Team 98-02. Goto saved the life of an eight year old japanese girl about 1950. She had fallen into a fast moving river and Goto jumped in and saved her. I would like to hear from anyone who remembers the incident and especially if anyone was an eyewitness. Me and some friends are trying to look into wether Goto might be eligible for the Soldiers Medal. To all Korean War Vets, Thank You for your service to the country. FIRST TEAM! I remember Sergeant Jakoby (Sp?) as the platoon sergeant. Had about 14 weeks of MP Basic and remember pulling MP Duty with a partner named cowles or knowles. Believe he was from California and may have been a wrestler prior to entering the service. He also may have been in the regular company. I just dont remember that clearly. But would like to hear from any one who served in the infamous "Provisional Platoon". M.P. co. saying HI to all those that I may have served with in Korea, especially Larry Alves, Vonohe, Yatchup,Hoppy of Texas, Rabideau and the guy that helped me so much when I got the crap beat out of me, Triollo, who one day stood at a traffic control point directing traffic at a fork in the road when a south african p51 Mustang ran into trouble and crash landed on that road, every time it bounced the fifties would go off and Triiollo didn't have anyware to hide, it finally bounced 0ver his head and landed in the next field. And maybe someone remembers the mess the MSR was in when the engiineers put clay down to make it smooth and then it rained, everything, even tanks slid into the ditch, Hi to all, it's been a long time. Maybe we can all celebrate the Chinese revolution which was 50 fears ago too.
