Comments: My Grandfather Spencer John Adams died recently. He lived really far away so I never saw him much. He told me a few stories about serving but he died before he could tell me more. I am really interested in knowing more. If anyone could tell me some I would really appreciate it.

Then he will be buried at West Point where he will join his beloved wife Miss Polly. From your command in those early days in Korea the 52nd Field Artillery Battalion when your calm demeanor during those early battles made us want to live up to the standard that you set for us.You will miss you at our reunion REPUAR sign 40 yards

Comments: My father served as a Lieutenant and FAO in the 52nd Field Artillery Bn, 24th Division, in Korea from November 1950 to sometime in 1952. He passed away in 1984, after some years illness exacerbated by what we came to know as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, though of course, this wasn't even a diagnosis during much of his lifetime. I am writing to ask if any of his comrades in arms remember him, and can share with us some remembrances of my Dad in what was the most extraordinary period of his life. Whether the memories are flattering, inspiring, disparaging, or painful, we wish to know everything. We loved him, we always will love him, and we do not fear the truth of him, so please, if anyone remembers Lt. Jim Herring, please tell us this part of his story.

I would like to hear from anyone that remembers "The BEAST". He was supply sergeant and later first sergeant of Svc Btry, 52nd FABn just before the outbreak of the Korean War. As I understand, he was the only combat veteran (WWII) in Svc Btry. My only independent memory was of Sunday morning, June 25, 1950 when the CQ of Svc Btry came into our house at Camp Hakata and yelled "Beasley, RED ALERT!" We were eating breakfast and my mother started crying. My father was gone in less than two minutes. Anyone remember? Let me know, please. Thank you.

Lacy Thrash wrote on 2004-11-14 04:06:55.0

Comments: I am entering this on behalf of Lacy Thrash, my stepfather. He enlisted in 3/51 and served in Japan and in Korea until 3/53. He was with the 24th Infantry Division, 52nd Field Artillery Battalion, Battery B. He served as a 105 mm howitzers cannoneer, fire direction and liaison director, and field wireman. He received the Armed Occupation Medal – Japan, Korean Service Medal, 2 Bronze Stars and a United Nations Medal. Unfortunately, he can not recall why he received the Bronze Stars. He does speak frequently about the numbing cold, a fierce battle holding the line between Seoul and the Yalu River; volunteering for an especially hazardous duty laying wire; and 8 consecutive months on the 38th Parallel. Lacy is from the Houston, Texas area; and now lives outside Dallas. He was a short man with dark hair and very outgoing at that time. He is very proud of his time with the 24th overseas. And although he can not recall many of names of the men he was with, I know he would love to hear from anyone who served. I have listed my e-mail, and if you respond by email I will be certain to contact him immediately. Please indicate you are a Korean Vet in the subject line.

Thank you and God bless each of you for your selflessness in serving America. Sherry

May sound stupid, but just want to actually see what I've heard him talk about so much. He received the Silver Star along with a Pvt. Fernando Martinez for a battle on July 5 near Osan. I lost Daddy in 1996 and only wish I could talk to him. If anyone has any information, or actually knew my Dad, please contact me! Thank you so very much.

In 1951 he was in the 24th Division. In 1952 "Smiley" was in the 52nd Field Artillery and moved to Japan. My father was in the (51-52) Field Artillery Bat. 24th Division 52nd FAB.

Casualty list 52 Field Artillery Bn

From: Hallahan96@Cox.net
Subject: (KIA, WIA, MIA, POW)

Dear Ted:

My first battalion commander in Korea, LtCol. M.O. Perry, asked me to
take over the task of battalion historian. One critical element of such
a unit history of course is the casualty list. Subject FA Bn was the
first in the Korean War and was part of Task Force Smith,
1st Battalion, 21st Infantry,24th Infantry Division) during those
terrible days of July 1950.

Lee Gladwin of the National Archives told me how to access the Korean
War Project for a casualty list of the 52 FA Bn, which I believe was
extracted from Record Group 407 of the National Archives. However when
I attempted to access that data base, a statement appeared the said the
owner's permission would be required. Would you please tell me how I
might obtain permission to obtain subject casualty list.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
Robert F. Hallahan
Colonel, U.S. Army,Retired

---from the KWP----

We sent via ftp and mail the full KIA/MIA list of the 52nd FAB. Now
have the entire WIA list done as well.

Doug,
I am the record keeper for the Korean War Ex-POW Assoc. I checked our
records and this is what I came up with: MAJ Dunham was from Littleton,
New Hampshire; assigned to Hq, 1st Bn, 34th Inf, 24th Div; died in
prison camp 7 Aug 1951. CPT Nugent, retired as a Major, was assigned to
Hq Btry, 52d FA Bn, 24th Div; repatriated 1 Sep 1953; died at age 78 in
Corpus Christi, TX. After repatriation Nugent was court-martialed at
Ft. Sill, OK, for collaborating but was acquited of all charges.

I sent a message yesterday to have my father's name
entered. One thing is, I forgot to give you my father's name. His
name is Leon G. Schwarz.

I will give out his address only to those who are genuinely interested
in contacting my father to talk over 'the old days'. He recv'd a bronze
star while he served in Korea. He has a lot of stories to tell about
certain movements and battles that he was in. He likes to talk about
these things and is very proud to have served. I am very proud of my
father and would like to see only good come of this.

Thank you!

My father served in Korea from 1950-52. He died in 1994 and never really
shared any stories with his children.

Im taking advantage of this technology to find out some of the battles
he fought in.

All I remember is that he talked alot about the 105 howitzer and he lost
his hearing in his right ear because one day they got an order to fire
200 rounds. After that his right ear was bleeding and there was no
hearing.

He also mentioned something about this enemy aircraft that would fly
over at night. I think he would refer to it as "Charlie???".

My father is a Korean War Veteran and I am trying to help him locate
buddies from his unit. He served in Korea from Dec. of 1950 to Nov. of
1951 (Army).

He was in the 24th infantry and was assigned to "Headquarters Bat 52nd
AAA SP Battalion". How can I get specific info about this group? Any
help would be greatly appreciated. He is specifically looking for a man
named "Roger Kunzelman", who was from Penn. and they served together.

They were both Sgt.'s and my dad lost contact with him the day he left
Korea. This would mean a lot to him. Please help!!! Thank you!!!

My brother, sister and I never had the opportunity to know our Uncle,
Thomas Dale "Dewey" Jones. We would like to hear from anyone who may
have known him, while in the service. He was with A Bat, 52FAB, 24th
INF Div. He was a POW and died at Hanjang-ne Jan. 1, 1951. He was
with the "Tiger" group.

Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.
