Comments: My Dad would like to locate his gunner while in Korea. He has mentioned him many times. His name was Eugene Lewis, He was from Calhoun Falls SC.His Dad was a Minister. Prior to the war he was a porter on the railroad and possibly returned to this after the war. Mr.Lewis would have been considered a minority at that time as He was black. My father has very fond memories of his friend and would like to locate info on him or his family.

Comments: As a surprise for my father, Mack, I am trying to locate a friend of his from the War. He has fond memories of his friend. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The only information I have is as follows: The friend's last name is: Chalmers, but everyone called him "Smiley". He called Baltimore, Maryland home.
In 1951 he was in the 24th Division. In 1952 "Smiley" was in the 52nd Field Artillery and moved to Japan. My father was in the (51-52) Field Artillery Bat. 24th Division 52nd FAB.
Again, any help in trying to locate Mr. Chalmers is appreciated. My father will be attending the Korean War Memorial this summer. I'd like to be able to give him some news of the friend he lost contact with.

Col. while serving at Fort Sill, OK He died Feb. 8, 1988 in Texas and is buried at Fort Sam Houston, TX. I am overjoyed to see the Korean War soldiers receive recognition which is long overdue. Dad served as SVC Btry CO about Sep '46-'May '49 and then was CO, 11th FA (as a senior CPT) until we left. DivArty was inSAD shape in those days! Glad we got out of there before the feces hit the ocillator. I was only 12-14 at the time, but was bat boy/water boy for DivArty ball teams. Naturally, I lost many friends by the end of 1950. Casualty list 52 Field Artillery Bn
From: Hallahan96@Cox.net
Subject: (KIA, WIA, MIA, POW)
Dear Ted:
My first battalion commander in Korea, LtCol. M.O. Perry, asked me to
take over the task of battalion historian. One critical element of such
a unit history of course is the casualty list. Subject FA Bn was the
first in the Korean War and was part of Task Force Smith,
1st Battalion, 21st Infantry,24th Infantry Division) during those
terrible days of July 1950.
Lee Gladwin of the National Archives told me how to access the Korean
War Project for a casualty list of the 52 FA Bn, which I believe was
extracted from Record Group 407 of the National Archives. However when
I attempted to access that data base, a statement appeared the said the
owner's permission would be required. Would you please tell me how I
might obtain permission to obtain subject casualty list.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Robert F. Hallahan
Colonel, U.S. Army,Retired
---from the KWP----
We sent via ftp and mail the full KIA/MIA list of the 52nd FAB. Now
have the entire WIA list done as well.

release from imprisonment of the following AMERICAN officers.

TASK FORCE SMITH, CAPTURED ON OR ABOUT 5TH JULY, 1950.

24TH. DIVISION, CAPTURED ON OR ABOUT 20TH JULY 1950. BELIEVED KILLED
SOON AFTER CAPTURE.
Also See: 34th IR
LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR REPLY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Doug,
I am the record keeper for the Korean War Ex-POW Assoc. I checked our
records and this is what I came up with: MAJ Dunham was from Littleton,
New Hampshire; assigned to Hq, 1st Bn, 34th Inf, 24th Div; died in
prison camp 7 Aug 1951. CPT Nugent, retired as a Major, was assigned to
Hq Btry, 52d FA Bn, 24th Div; repatriated 1 Sep 1953; died at age 78 in
Corpus Christi, TX. After repatriation Nugent was court-martialed at
Ft. Sill, OK, for collaborating but was acquited of all charges.

I will give out his address only to those who are genuinely interested

certain movements and battles that he was in. He likes to talk about

My father served in Korea from 1950-52. He died in 1994 and never really
shared any stories with his children.
Im taking advantage of this technology to find out some of the battles
he fought in.
All I remember is that he talked alot about the 105 howitzer and he lost
his hearing in his right ear because one day they got an order to fire
200 rounds. After that his right ear was bleeding and there was no
hearing.
He also mentioned something about this enemy aircraft that would fly
over at night. I think he would refer to it as "Charlie???".
