Comments: Gentlemen,
I recently took over 526th Engineer Company (Horizontal) from CPT Herlihy. I am looking for photos, information on battles, projects, etc for the "old" 526th Engineer Company. It is a special project of mine to teach my Soldiers the history and legacy of this fine company.
The company recently participated in a project in Yuma, AZ building a 3.5 mile stretch of road along the US/Mexico Border. The company is also on the time line to deploy again in the next year.
I am somewhat familair with Korea, having served there as a new LT with the 44th Engineer Battalion, known as the Broken Heart Battlation, that served in Korea for over 50years before deploying to OIF.
Please pass along anything you have, stories, photos, names. You can email, fax, or mail me. Thank you!

Very Respectfully,

Jennifer Etters

Comments: My grandfather SGT Gabe Chiotti died in 1971 at the age 0f 39. he was
part of the 526th engs. I never got a chance to meet him since he died so
young and I was not born untill 1975. I was wondering if anyone out there
remembers him or perhaps has a photo. Any info would be greatly appr.

Comments: Gentlemen,

My name is Captain Dan Herlihy, commander of Bravo Company, 92nd Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) at Ft. Stewart, Georgia. This year my guidon will be retired and the company will be re-activated as the 526th Engineer Company (Horizontal) - a horizontal construction combat engineer company.

I am interested in finding out more information on the lineage of the 526th Bridge Panel Company, and it's former members. If you have any information on unit crests, motto, mascot, etc, I would greatly appreciate you sharing it with me. I look forward to hearing more about the lineage and honors of the 526th, and will be more than happy to share the recent history of the company with you as well.

Thank you for your time, and your service to our nation.

Essayons!
Dan Herlihy

Comments: i was drafted into the army on 3 jan 1951 and was trained in fort lenordwood missouri. i then was sent to young dung po seoul korea as a bridge specialist because of my home occupation. i served with many good men i remember the names cunningham and saunders, but those are about all the names i remember now. please fell free to contact me anytime to talk if you like. i came home 21 dec 1952. i also served as a cook the head cook infact. i upheld for the enlisted which cost me rank, but i didnt care i was sick of seeing the men get berated and belittled by some of the officers. maybe you remember me now because i upheld for you as well. i was 5'11 jet black hair ( wavey ) with brown eyes people say i looked mexican or native american ( which i am part and part german ) i weighed about 150-165 i was strong and sometimes sported a mustache. i had many buds in there. i also had a house boy ( like a servent or butler ) named chung chic ( or something like that but we called him shorty ) he was a wonderful kid and my buddy he always did what i asked him to do. hear from you soo i hope...walter ray duley

Comments: I was with the 526th from Feb. '62 until Feb '63, long after the War. The cop was a Capt. named Gilbert, 1st Sgt. Byrne, big red headed guy from Georgia. During that time the unit was part of I Corps, at Camp Essayons 20 miles north of Seoul. The unit was manned mostly by KATUSAs with GIs in the key positions. We built bridges every time something washed out, and I recall it being very difficult work, sometimes all night.

Would like to hear from anyone connected with our company during that time. I have been searching for a buddie, John B. Hollis, we spent all this time together, came home at same time. He was from Baltimore, MD and I from N.D. I can't seem to locate him. Do you have any ideas. I am now in Oregon.
