My grandfather passed away just before Christmas this last year, and I've finally started going through his personal items. I found a photo album with a few pictures from when he was in Korea, as well as a small poster of the '507th Signal Co (SVC) The Best Damn Signal Co In Korea.' Anyway, as I went through the album, pictures were missing. (As a child he'd tell me about each picture, remember the names/faces of both GIs and Korean Nationals he worked with)... One such picture is of him in uniform... the only which dictated his rank. I'm trying to put together something I can share with my (unborn) child about my grandfather... so I was wondering if maybe anyone knew/remembered him and could tell me more about him, Korea and the 507th in general. His name is Gerald L. Wescott, I think he might have been a Cpl... not sure when he came stateside but I know he was in Korea during '53. If anyone has any info please contact me. It will be built in a central location rather than on the East or West Coast. It will be built in Springfield, Illinois. Several members of the 507th expressed interest in making a group donation in the 507th's name. I am currently soliciting contributions for this cause. If you wish to join us, make a tax deductible check out to: Korean War Veterans National Museum and Library I will gather all the contributions and forward them to the Building Fund with a cover letter to credit the contributions to our organization. I will set a date of December 1, 2006 as the date I will forward the checks. We hope you can join this effort and contribute what you can afford. No amount is too large or too small. Many of us intend to visit the Museum when it is dedicated. I will always feel so deeply indebted to them all, and especially my heart goes out to those that never made it home. As I was driving home from my in-laws today, I saw a DL that read: "POW Survivor", I have to admit my heart was very heavy/saddened, I can't imagine the pain and suffering he went thru for his country's sake. I wanted so much to give him a salute to show him my deep respect. I give a salute to all the GI's that fought in the Korean War. A sincere thanks, from the bottom of my heart. The 507th Signal had teams all over Korea. There were teams at Pyongyang (1950), Chinnampo (1950) Inchon, Kunsan, and Koje-DO. there were other teams but as time goes by the mind grows dim. I sure would like to contact these troops. I remember SFC G.O. O'Brain mess sgt made "C" Rations taste like fine food. And I do remember the winter of 50-51 never beens so cold in all my life. Move out of Chinnampo on a LST "Q" 90 with a Japaness crew. With the help of Sgts Neil Lockley and Dennis Ambrose have made contact with several 507th troops.
