Comments: I have "One if by Land" A pictorial Story of the 4th Signal Battalion in Korea.
It's like a high school year book. It has the different company, platoon, unit in it with photos. There are several other photos that accompany each unit.
Found my dad, Frank Martin and also found out that he was originally in "B" company and then transferred to "C' company.
It might help anyone looking for photos.
Email me and let me know and I'll be glad to look up the company and see if the photo is there.
God Bless the USA, our veterans and the service and their families that are currently serving.

My Dad - Frank O. Martin |

Sandy Yarbrough wrote on 2003-03-19 10:07:10.0
Comments: My dad didn't talk much about his experience and with his passing in June 1993, all those memories were lost to my family.
I would love to know anything you can tell him about the experience if you were with him. His name was Frank O. Martin. He was stationed in Ft Bragg, NC when he was shipped over. He and my mom were 4 days away from getting married when he left and he didn't marry her. He didn't want her to be a war time bride. My mom has letters that my dad wrote to my grandfather asking him to take care of her because he didn't believe he would leave the country alive.
Your help in giving me this information would be great appreciated! I'm so excited about finding this site.
Thanks and God bless all our Veterans!

Comments: I am looking for some pictures or information on Samuel Whitfield who served with 4th Sig. from 50 - 51. I am doing a little project for my wife with the flag she received after his burial and his ribbons and medals. I would like to know what type of insignia was worn on the uniforms and things like that so I can incorporate them into this display for her. If anyone has any info please contact me, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have group photo's of the lab groups before the 10 corp was desolved. Is there anyone alive? This was in Kawandaree Valley. In the spring of 1954 I moved to Soul and the 22nd Group. I also have a group photo of that group as well. I was the photographer for both groups I am also in both photo's.

Comments: I was with Company "C" 4th signal battalion from Sept. 49 until July of 50.I attended the signal school at Camp Gordon, Ga. from Oct. 49 through march of 50. we were on manuvers at Fort Bragg, N.C. when Korea broke out. I was one of the first group of "volunteers" to be shipped out for Korea. I was assigned to the Air force and sent to Okinawa while aboard ship. was wondering if this was the old Ft. Bragg Group as I am now retired and have time to surf the internet. Thanks

Comments: LTC (Retired)Charles "Rick" de Zafra (my father and then a 2nd Lt.) served with the 4th Sig. Bn from August in Fort Bragg till he was seriously wounded during a small unit night action on either 6 and/or 7 November, 1950 near the resevoir. I don't know what platoon he commanded and am seeking information about that fight for inclusion into a family history. Additional rememberances from surviving veterans about the 4-months leading up to his becoming a casualty will be warmly welcomed. I served in the 44th MASH at Osan-ni, Korea (1965-66) and would be especially interested to know if the 4th Sig. Bn ever operated along the MSR between Seoul and Munsan.

4th Signal Battalion
From: URNCHAD@aol.com
Subject: Info regarding the 4th Signal Battalion Corps
There seems to be no information regarding this unit which entered the
korean peninsular at the Inchon landing and as far as I know may still
be there.
The unit provided communications for various groups iover the whole
peninsular including the marines ,army and artillery units. Most of us
were presented with an additional Truman year due to having a critical
MOS. We left from PUSAN on converted Victory or liberty ship far
from a comfortable trip. Its been years since I've even thought of that
time and i just thought that some of the men i served with might still
be around .However, over the years most of the names have been
overwritten.

I have in my possession a 4th Signal Battalion Book which was printed
some time in 1951 which has pictures of just about everyone in the
Battalion during the summer of 1951 and it also includes a brief history
of the Battalion during WW11. The Battalion, as you may know,
was in the Inchon invasion. I was assigned to the unit in April 1951.
