BATTLEFIELD COMMISSIONS

Comments: My dad received a battlefield comission in February
1951. He just asked me if I could research to find
out how many were awarded by the US Army during the
Korean War. (I was quite surprised as he like many
combat vets do not broach the topic of their time in
combat often.) Any ideas of how to find this
information? I would also be interested in
connecting with any veterans that may have served
with my dad. Dad doesn't have a computer. Thanks so
much.

Comments: I'm interested if anyone served with my father, Lt.
Donald l. Goodling, Atlantic Beach, Florida,
graduated from the University of Florida spring of
1952. He was in C Battery, was on a champion flag
football team, was a liason to the U.N. and at the
end of his tour he was assigned to the HQ 48th. FA Bn
USAFFE. I have a batch of photos of his time there
with names on the back: Maj. McQueen(r)y, Sgt. Boko,
Lt. Renkin, and Capt. Griffith. As everyone knows,
many records were destroyed in a fire in the midwest
in the 1970's. Any information is greatly
appreciated. 1952-1954

severely wounded due to incoming mortars. Freedman was
only slightly wounded, but all three maintained their
posts holding off 2 Divisions of Chinese troops during
the last battle for Porkchop Hill. See book by Bill

Comments: I served in Korea during Aug. 1951 to Sept. 1952. When on R and R in Japan, I had a silk screen picture of my wife and also one of a friend's daughter or sister made. The last name of my friend in Korea was either Thomas or Thompson. I would like to get this silk screen picture to him. Have had both pictures in the original package from Tokyo, Japan for all these years. The friend is British and also gave me most of his month's pay to go on R and R. Would love to hear from him or any relatives who may have heard this story. The last I heard from him he was living in Washington, DC.

I returned to Btry A o/a 1 Aug 53 and was handed a brass letter opener with the inscription "from the last round fired 27 JUL 53". The KSC's prepared a sand mold and used the melted brass from the last 105mm round to construct these letter openers. The inscription does not indicate which of the Firing Batteries fired this round. At the time, I was told that it was Btry "A" and I Would like to have confirmation.
