Fritts was killed and Barry was severely wounded due to incoming mortars. Freedman was only slightly wounded, but all three maintained their posts holding off 2 Divisions of Chinese troops during the last battle for Porkchop Hill. See book by Bill McWilliams detailling this action. Book is entitled "On Hallowed Ground", and hopefully will be made into a movie... When on R and R in Japan, I had a silk screen picture of my wife and also one of a friend's daughter or sister made. The last name of my friend in Korea was either Thomas or Thompson. I would like to get this silk screen picture to him. Have had both pictures in the original package from Tokyo, Japan for all these years. The friend is British and also gave me most of his month's pay to go on R and R. Would love to hear from him or any relatives who may have heard this story. I returned to Btry A o/a 1 Aug 53 and was handed a brass letter opener with the inscription "from the last round fired 27 JUL 53". The KSC's prepared a sand mold and used the melted brass from the last 105mm round to construct these letter openers. The inscription does not indicate which of the Firing Batteries fired this round. At the time, I was told that it was Btry "A" and I Would like to have confirmation. Would like to hear from anyone assigned the 48th FA Bn during this period who has first hand information on this subject (Btry, Target,time etc). Then went to the 24th ID (Taro Leaf). Went to Korea with the 64th FA, 25th ID as a FO with I Co. Later served as a Liason Officer with BN HQ. Promoted to 1LT. Later served in the Army Reserve in SVC Battery Co, 96th ID as a Communications Officer. Promoted to CPT. He was from Brigham City, Utah, born January of 1930. Of course I remember some such as Chip Yong Nee, Hwatchwan Reservoir, Chunchon, Pusan, Inchon the spelling may not be correct in all cases. I was in Korean from December of 50 thru December of 51.We were often time on TDY to other units and almost never in reserve. Keywords: Can only remember a very few names: Sgt.
