I believe he was killed by a direct hit as his unit began moving back from their positions so his body could not be retrieved. The family still hopes his remains will be returned to them.

Comments: Hi! I would like anyone who remembers my Dad (Johnny JB Back) to contact me! I would also like anyone who knows why my Dad received the Bronze Star Medal, to contact me... My Dad served as a private & Corporal in the Korean War & I never knew he had received the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, The Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal for Korea, US Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantry Badge, & Combat Leadership Patch until it was too late. My Dad died on November 22, 2008. My Sister & I made memorial videos which can be seen on YouTube (My account name there is: ChrissyWhale) Each video shows photos of my Dad back in the military & throughout his life. The Links to the videos are: My Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOubZ0socR0 My Sisters Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vmhmL95ySM&feature=channel_page (I hope they showed up - If not, email me!) My Dad was born & raised in Sharon, PA; joined the Army in 1952; served in the Korean War as a Corporal; & then married the most wonderful gal (Our Mom), on August 25th, 1957. Together they had 1 Son & 4 Daughters, who in turn blessed them with: 5 Grandsons & 3 Granddaughters; 1 Step Granddaughter & 1 Step Grandson; & 1 Great GrandSon!! Throughout his life he lost his parents & his 3 sisters... He Loved Baking, Fishing, & Riding his John Deere Tractor! He had many pets: Dogs, Cats, Chickens, Roosters, a Pig, & even a baby Squirel! After only 51 years of marriage & almost 76 years of life, he was taken from this Earth to take his journey home. Please help my family figure out why my Dad received the Bronze Star & maybe learn a little bit more about his stay in the Army. Thank You So Much & God Bless!

I believe he was a member of the 45th Division and was present at Hill 255. He never spoke of the war. He grew up in White Plains and Long Island, NY. Comments: I am looking for anybody that served with my father in Korea during 1952. He was involved in the battles of Mt. Baldy and received a purple heart and other commendations. He was a Master Sergeant with the 45th ID Thunderbirds out of Oklahoma. He also went by the names Max, Baldi, or Jerry. I have almost no information on his military service due to a fire that destroyed his military records along with countless others. If anybody has served with him, knows him or knows of reunions or other links/websites that could help me, please direct me or contact me. I would appreciate any info or help. Respectfully,
Corey Maxfield - Son

Comments: My uncle who I never met (Father's Brother) was killed in action as an Infantryman in 1953 with the 45th Infantry Division. His name is PFC Edward Sinkler of Sumpter, SC. My aunt Sallie still talks about him. It seems he was a great man with high morale values. He had a tough time as a Negro in the south and in the US Army at the time. Unfortunately, he was not married not did he have any children. Records state that he was born in 1930 which made him 23 at time of death but my aunt swears he was 16 years old at time of death. Supposedly, he easily forged his date of birth to serve his country which was seemingly easy to do during those times and especially for a negro. I hope he received the right recognition.

Arnold served with M Co 279th during Jan 51-Apr52 in Korea. He was an infantryman with an mos of hvy weapons mortorman. He is seeking assistance from fellow soldiers that served during this time and place for confirmation of cold weather injuries(frostbite)for VA disablities.all records of the VA for this period were burned in a fire a few years ago. Due to this only eye witness accounts have much of a chance to help veterans establish that they were in dire circumstances during these trying times. anyonw willing to help, we will send a letter to you with the required info and selfstamped return envelope We in return will assist you if you need confirmation with your medical disabilities turned down by the VA with the cold weather injuries. I am his eldest son, retired master sgt, Vietnam and Gulf war veteran so I know how it feels to be told that your service was not worth your countries time & money. Thank you for your past service in keeping us free here in the USA.

Both are passed away. 2 of their good friends were "Happy Jack" Freeman of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and Scotty Harjo of Lawrence, Kansas. Both of these fine men are passed away also. I believe that Scotty was originally from Oklahoma. If anyone remembers them, I would be interested in hearing from them. Thank you.

Comments: My father, Carroll F. Cox, was a corporal and a radio man for this unit in the 45th Infantry Division in Korea. I am looking for any information regarding the posts in Korea, battles, unit commanders, with dates and places. I know his C.O. was O.T. Autry, and his buddies names are A.P. Tindall, (not sure of the spelling), Gene Smith, and Ivan Kutz. My father has since passed away, and I am not sure if any of these guys are still around but any information would be helpful. Anyone who may have known my dad would be welcome to respond. I am attempting to create a family history with this information for my kids and it would be great to hear from some of his old friends.
I am also a veteran of the Vietnam conflict and this project is my way of paying tribute to my dad and his comrades in arms.

Steve Cox

Staff Ride - Naktong Bulge
Date: Thu, 30 Nov 1995
mbinder@emh5.korea.army.mil
Subject: Korean War Research
My name is CPT Binder. I am in the United States Army stationd in Taegu,
Korea with the 19th TAACOM. I just have some information to give you as
well as some questions. First the info: my father , COL (ret)John J. Binder
was with the 45th ID in the Korean War. He currently teaches military
history at Kent State University. His expertise is in the Korean War.
As a side note, I was at Fort Lee, Virginia when I heard of the memorial
dedication. I went up for the dedication and was moved not only by the
memorial, but by the vets I came into contact with. So, after driving
for 3 hours back to fort Lee, I called my Dad and told him he still had
time to go. He asked a friend at work for advice. Ray Flynn, a VietNam
vet told him "You have to go, if not for yourself, do it for the guys
that never made it back." So he rode on the train for 20 hours round
trip to be at the dedication. I'll never forget that visit.
Anyway, I would like to offer some help. My Dad's assistance is
available for any research, etc. I'm getting him on E-mail soon. I work
with a major who has up to 150 color photographs from his grandfather.
They cover areas from Pusan to the Hwachon Reservoir.
Now for the help needed. I am doing a staff ride on the first
battle of the Naktong River Bulge. I am looking for any vets involved in
that battle, especially ones that are in the ROK. Any other lead on
texts, videos, etc. would be highly appreciated.
A word of thanks to all the vets that are helping us to "carry the
torch" of the forgetten war.
