If the men I was based with and I had known that, we would never have returned to base. Fort Beaver by the way, was the only Army installation in Korea, to be designated a Fort. All the other installations were either designated Camps, or Depots. All I know is, at the end of a night of drinking in the nearest village, we always stumbled back to a place called Fort Beaver. I think someone should let the 73rd Artillary Division soldiers, that they weren't stationed there either, (right across the main road from our unit. I did my blunts, after my military service, and I know where I was stationed. Keywords:

HHC and A CO moved into the first bldgs that was built. Bravo and CHARLEY moved into the portable trailers that housed the 809th Engr Bn that de-activated in Thailand. The reason the 44th moved from camp carrol, was to do the earth work and support bldgs for all the ammunition bunkers. The 44th was building the biggest troop project in the US Army at the time.I rotated out in Sept 71,I was told the BN left there in 1972 and went north. The 44th went through some trying times there,so did the army. The report went on to state that no United States personnel are known to have been involved in the actual application of herbicides along the demilitarized zone. Can't beleive they say the 44th was not on the DMZ, or at Fort Beavers, Korea .they claim that the 44th was 27 miles south of Soule
