Looking for some Buddies

Comments: Writing for Gene Lloyd who is looking for two buddies: Joseph F. Naughton and Charles Goen who has nickname ( Porkchops)

Gene Lloyd had his picture in Stars and Stripes paper, when the 430th was down on Koje-Do island for the riots in May, June 1952.

Gene doesn't have a computer, so any information we get on people he is looking for, will be forwarded to him by "snail mail" by me or people involved!

Comments: Arrived in Korea 6/53, To start,filled potholes in the road between Chunchon & Wonju,then was Capt.Bentley's jeep driver.I then became the Motor pool Dispatcher. The company moved from Chunchon to Wonju,we sat up camp on the old Wonju air base. Love to hear from any of you old G.I's. Hope to see you at the 2004 reunion. Thanks Uncle Sam for the experiences. Comments: Landed at Inchon, July '51- Train to Tagu 32nd Group, to 430th C Co. Drove Operations Jeep for Boss, Sgt. "Snake", later Warrent Officer.

Built two bridges over Soyang river south of Inje.

Went to Koje Do after riots. Built 500 men compounds on other side of Koje. LST ride was wild

June 23 1952,(my birthday) on deck with Jeep really rocking.

Glad not to have been in the Navy!

Comments: I was in Korea from 1951 until 1952, am looking for anyone that worked on the 600' bridge we built near Engi (sp). Please contact me, I look forward to hearing from any of you. I was the one that painted the sign on the bridge on Christmas of 1951, "Merry Christmas" and a large Santa Girl, many of the guys took pictures of it from the pontoon bridge on the side.

Comments: Believe it or not, we did have "some" good times! I never built a bridge until I went to Korea! I guess we wouldn't recoginize the place now! I even got to drive a "Jeep". And I got to ride on an LST, down to Koje and the another one to the other side of Koje, where we built some 500 man compounds for the bad asses there Anyone remember those good things the outfit did? Let me know!!

Comments: Drove Jeep for "Operations". Got to see alot of Korea. Biggest 430th project was the two bridges over the Soyang river. Got Unit Citation for them! Real experience down on Koje-Do island at the May day riots. POWs captured Gen. Dodd.

Comments: A real experience for a 23 year old. 50 years ago went by so quick now that I think about it! Got unit citations, U.S and Korean, for two bridges that we built over the Soyang river. A wake up experience for us down on the island of Koje-Do with the May '52 POW Riots! The Chinese were real bad asses!

Korean service medal

Comments: Can anybody tell me how I can prove I was in Korea with the 430th, so I can get my Korean service medal. The goverment says a bunch of records were destroyed in a fire. apparently mine were in them. I did manage to get a good conduct and a national defense medal. Anybody have any ideas?

Comments: i was regular army, station in camp carson , colorado jan. 51 at that time i was transfered to 434th. eng. co c. i think it was a reserve unit, from mississippi, but not sure. arrived korea some time in feb. 52 would like any information regarding this unit.
