Huachuca in July 1951 and assigned to the 417th Engr Avn Brigade. They were a reserve unit that was activated from Portland, Oregon. The Brigade was transfered to Camp Beale in Marysville, CA in Dec. 1951 and several months later to Taegu, Korea (April 1952 I think). I was with them from Arizona to Korea until Jan 1953. I enjoyed the Arizona climate so much that I returned after discharge and have been here since. Keywords:

Our platoon built a taxiway and firing-in-butt used by the Air Force planes to adjust their guns. We laid down pierced steel planking for the taxiway (a command mistake!) and my earthmoving platoon poured the concrete pad for the planes to sit on. Our company was also involved in pouring concrete floors for a hospital at Tachikawa(sp?)AFB on north end of Honshu. Lt. Rogers was in charge of that. There was a Lt. from S. Dakota. Also Lt. Gray was my room mate for a while. Most of the army people were being replaced by AF until Congress said "No!" and unit was deactivated. Keywords: Stationed in Chitose, Japan 1954-56. I was supply officer of C CO who became Company CO. when 811th EAB was deactivated. Afterwards, I was Off Base Site Liasion for Chitose AFB. I remember army Capt. Stuart C. McArthur who was C company CO. Also Lt. Harry Wilt who was C company CO earlier. Other names come to me from time to time, but it was 55 years ago.

He did at times switch middle names from John to Daniel. Daniel was his confirmation name. Dad was in the Army from 03/06/1951 to 03/25/1953. He was mustered out in New Jersey at Camp Kilmer.He was then transfered to the reserves for 5 years in the Second Army. Dad was a PFC(T). Thanks again for any help. He did his basic in Arizona and was transfered to the 417th. He spoke at times of someone named Gagney and I have a photo of him with a fellow named Sears. He was my dad. If you did know him I would love any information you might have. Sadly he passed away in 1984, I think of him more often now and I would like to know more about him in his youth. He was so proud of what you all did in Korea. I'm proud too. His image was chosen from one of the Army file photos to be on the Korean War Memorial. I wish he was here to see it. He would be beaming. He passed away July 22, 2007. Anyone passing on any Army memories would be appreciated. Someone might remember he played Irish music on the button accordion and he was from Boston. Yakima Canutt and Bob Schiller were in the same unit. I have some photos of Joe taken in Korea and Japan. A couple of photos with an Army Buddy nicknamed "Hooker" who I believe passed away since.
