24TH DIV. 21ST INFANTRY REG / 40TH REPLACEMENT CO. |
| HUGH CARPENTER wrote on February 3, 2012 City and State: TRACY CA Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My father, Hugh S. Carpenter served with the 21st Infantry Regiment K. Company in Korea from 1951 to 1952 in the area known as The Iron Triangle. My dad has no computer, so he asked me to help him. He recently has fallen ill and is receiving treatment at the local VA hospital. My dad was on Hill 364 overlooking Kumsong Province on Jan. 23, 1952. Shortly thereafter my father was wounded in action from enemy shrapnel and was E-VACed to the 25th Medical Evacuation Hospital in Taegu Korea. I earlier thought my father was sent to Japan, but this is not the case and an error on my part. Needless to say, my father never received his Purple Heart due to loss of chain of command, for upon returning to the front lines his previous unit was disbanded and he was re-assigned to the 40th Replacement Co. Division of the California National Guard. It would be a great thrill for my father to reconnect with any of the buddies he fought along side, some of their names are Castanga, Spero, Esposito, Dvoreck, Everly, Bano, "Red" and Lt. Wolfe. Their spelling may be incorrect, for that I apologize. Any information would be most greatly appreciated. I was a rifleman in the 3rd Armored Div., 2nd Batt. 48th Inf., stationed in Gelnhausen Germany during the cold war era in the 1970s. I never had to face combat, and I thank all of you, for your courageous service to our country. Sincerely, Hugh P. Carpenter Keywords: 24th Infantry Division, 21st Regiment, 40th Replacement Co. | DAN SEBBY wrote on September 7, 2010 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: OTHER Comments: I am the director of the California State Military Museum located in Sacramento. We would like the former members of the 40th ID to know that we have established a archives here at the museum. We are making a major effort to preserved the photos, records, and papers of the members of the division and make them available to historians, researchers, and family members. The current 40th ID HQ has already transferred all of their photos from WWII, the official 40th Signal Co combat camera set as well as other collections of the Division's history. If you can get this out to your members, we would appreciate it.
