Comments: Looking for anyone who knew or served with my late father Herbert W. Mantick who was wounded on 15 Jan 1952 near Kumwha. His DD214 showed that he was in Company D, 3rd Engr BN, 24th ID. After unit rotated to Japan, he has a number of photos from the ceremony where he received his Purple Heart along with a Corporal and a Sergeant (three stripes up and one down). One photo is marked indicating their D Co. C.O. was a Capt. Love. Another photo says the officer presenting was a Major Howell. None of the photos has the specific date on them, but from some dates on stateside newpaper notices it would probably have been before early to mid-april. Anyone who served with or knew my dad, please email me at wb9omc@yahoo.com.

He is still alive, I was wondering if you knew of him? I have a "blackbox" of his that he carried, it has all the name/ S/N / etc. etc. of his men, I also have about 200-300 pictures of one of his tours. He served in WWII, Korea, and Veitnam. He spent 21 years in the Army. His tank, a M4A3E8 (With the dozer blade) named "Mona Teresa" If you think that you know of him, or you know somebody that knows him, PLEASE contact me.

- A few things that may help you remember him? -

He was also Elvis Presly's SGT at one time.

Also, at one time his tanks was painted "The year of the Tigers" In his log he wrote; " 28 Jan 50 Tanks will be painted to - resemble ferocious Tigers - Blk - Tellow - Red - White when paint available ..."

He also spent time in Japan, Korea, Panama City, Cuba, England, Germany, etc. etc.

Here is a small list of men that he was in command in. This comes from his "book", I will just list just the names.

Comments: After returning from a year in Korea myself, I became interested in my father's tour during the 50's. He began in '52 as PFC Leo (Lucky) Nelson, then CPL, and finally SGT. He served in HSC 3rd ENG BN first as a welder under a SGT Vasquez(sp)in maintenance, "On the hill" He then went on to operate a 10 ton recovery vehicle, and later as his tour was winding down was the Sergeant of a convoy delivering care packages to the orphanages in Pusan. He remembers very little, but would like to hear from anyone who remembers him. Only a very few names stick out in his memory, Col Steinhoffer(sp) was the Bn Commander, and his 1SG was Moody, 1SG Moody had red hair, and a red beard, He thinks they called him "The Big Red Bull" Please email me with any info, and I'll pass it on to him, Dad's no good with computers, and his health is fading, but it would sure brighten up his day to hear from an Army buddy. Thanks alot, SPC David Nelson

Comments: Ed Hermansen, my Dad, recently died of cancer. Our family is attempting to find a possible first wife and child. Ed was in the Army from 1948-1952, stationed in at least Hawaii, GA, and the Philipines where he recieved a medal for surviving malaria. He was a handsome, 6 ft, cheerful man, who loved fun and friends. Ed was raised in WA state and returned there to raise a large family. Tana Boucher

George was MIA and remains have never been recovered. He had just turned 18 when he was reported missing. George was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Thank you for any help.

Comments: Three years ago today, Veterans Day, I wrote a message on this board looking for my uncle, MSG Robert Paul Bibb. Paul was an SFC, serving with C Co. when he was declared missing during the retreat from Taegu 7/20/50. His body was never found and the Army lost all personnel records in a fire in the early 70's. Any unit records that may have existed from that chaotic time have also been lost. I was able to find Billy Johnson who says that he served with Paul but was not with him at the end.

I did my combat time in Vietnam, also with the Army, and I know how confusing the situation can be and how the paperwork doesn't always catch up to what happened. But, I also know the bond that is created among veterans whose only protection was a thin cotton shirt and their buddy beside them. I am counting on that.

I know that the odds are slight, but I must try one more time to reach out and see if I can't find someone who stood with Paul on his last day.

Now that my mother, Paul's sister, is the last of her family it would mean a great deal to her, and to me, if we could find out what happened that day.

If anyone can help, please contact me.

Michael Driggs

Comments: I am searching for more information on my biological father, Charles Edward Fullwood, he was a Korean War Vet. I was lucky enough to have met him and know him for 3 1/2 years before he passed away in 1994. He belonged to the Co B, 3d Engr (C) Bn, APO 24 - on his discharge papers (which I have) it states this as his most significant duty. He was also in the Foriegn and/or Sea service for 1year 4months & 14 days. I would like to know what it consisted of if there were others with him or someone who may know. He was in the Army from May 8, 1953 when he enlisted in Ft. Leonard Wood MO until May 7, 1956. He did make SGT (T) on Oct 21, 1954. What does the (T) stand for..? I have requested a replacement of his medals to put with his flag & picture. I would love to hear if anyone knew him or if anyone may have pictures.

Comments: I'm tryincg to find any knowledge of my uncles during the "Korean Police Action" They were both killed during that war. (OOPS! "Conflict" right?) I'm 40 and named after LaWayne and would like to know more about him. I also have a 1st cousin somewhere in Japan (the son of one of them. Marriage was anulled because it wasn't approved by commander) and would like to have some contact with him. Our government (in it's infinite wisdom)disallowed his wife's benefits after his death on the grounds that the marriage wasn't approved by his commander. If you're out there Cuz, It wasn't my fault and I would love to meet you. Both were killed soon after shipping out to Korea from Japan in the early fifties. Any info anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!!!

Comments: Sirs, I would be greatful for any information regarding the events of 7/20/50 involving the 3rd Engineer Batt., particularly activity surrounding the participation of Pvt. Hayden Davenport. Pvt Davenport was KIA that day, and I am attempting to research info for an article. I served in the 7th Inf., 3rd Div. in Germany, in the early 60's. During that time I had several leaves in Amsterdam and Copenhagen, an hung out there with a buddy from the Canadian Black Watch Rgt., "Dave" Davenport. Dave told me that his older brother had been KIA in Korea while serving with the 3rd Eng. I noticed Hayden's name on the KIA list for Korea. I feel strongly that the individual soldier's ultimate sacrifice be noted and remembered, so as to put a face on the Korean War and give it meaning for future generations. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Paul Kelly

I was the Division Map Distributor on detached service to Division Headquarters; cir.1951-52. I was assigned to the 24th Infantry Division in Sendai Japan, and then the 3rd Engineer Battalion, when it was in Yamato, Japan. Then they moved the entire Division to Pusan, Korea. We were eventually moved up to Yangu Village in Korea.

The cease-fire was signed during the last of my stay there. I am now 70 years old and imagine the guys I knew are in the same age range, so if you're out there please contact me, there just ain't a lot of time left!

I confess that my memory isn't what it used to be and I don't remember too many names anymore (I do remember Kaliel, but not his last name). We had a Lt. Col. in command of our unit and a Captain and Master Sargent (name: Sgt. Glass).

Please send an email if you have information or know anyone in my old unit.

Comments: On behalf of my father, Jack Wright.

During the Korean War my dad, Jack Wright served with the 3rd Engineer Combat. Sometime around 1950 or 51, his troop "adopted" a little boy (about age 6 or 7 maybe) who was orphaned when everyone in his village was killed. He was the only survivor. He was a North Korean child. They were unable to find out the boy's name. He would only let them call him Joe. They called him "Little Joe". He was from somewhere in the southern part of North Korea and Dad only remembers that it was in the mountains. It broke his heart when it was time for them to move on and his commanding officer made him take Little Joe to an orphanage in Pusan, South Korea. Does anyone know of a way to find this boy who would now be in his 50's? Were records kept at these orphanages? Are they accessible? My Dad still thinks of Little Joe often and wishes he could talk to him again.

looking for anyone who may have been with or near my best friend
when he got killed in Korea on 10 July 1950. The particulars are as
follows.

NAME Wayne O. Meyer, PFC
Ser.No. 15412012
DOB 27 July 1931 Mansfield, Ohio
Member Co. B, 3rd Engineers Combat Battalion 24th Inf. Div

The information I have is that on. 10 July 1950,Wayne was driving a
2 1/2 ton truck loaded with demolition, in convoy returning to the CP
at Chochiwon when the convoy was straffed by friendly aircraft.
Wayne was hit and died instantly.

Other information I have is that CO. B lost two men on 10 July 1950,
1 killed and 1 missing. Can anyone help me find the truth.

Update: May 1998

Also I contacted the 24th Inf. Div through your page and got in touch
with "Rudy & Vonnie" who put out the 24th's paper the "TARO LEAF."

I sent them the same message I have on your 3rd Combat Engineers page.
Yesterday I got a letter from a guy that was in the convoy with Wayne.

He actually saw the Sgt. take Wayne's body from the cab of the truck and
hide it in a culvert. He helped off load the balance of the demolitions
while the truck was still smoldering. The convoy was straffed by
American F-80s which coincides with my own research.

Thanks for the good work

Looking for anyone that knew my brother George T. Hill. He went on a 20
man patrol on 8/11/50 across the Naktong river near Chong-dong. Patrol
lead by Lt. Neville. Only 5 men returned.

George was MIA and remains have never been recovered. He had just
turned 18 when he was reported missing. George was born and raised in
Los Angeles, CA. Thank you for any help.

Good Site. I was a member of the 3d Combat Engineer Bn, 24th Inf Div
from Dec 49 to Jun 51 and performed Engineer Reconnaissance Duties.

Most of my section was killed or captured o/a 25 Nov 1950 about 25 miles
south of the Yalu River, Northwest part of North Korea. Some surviving
members were Russell V. Pemberton Jr, T.C. Clark (Frewsburg NY) Donald
G. Hackford (Snoqualmie Falls WA).

We were not with the rest of the Section when they were ambushed but did
recon the area two days later with a reinforced Inf Plt of the 24th Inf
Div (Probably the 21st Inf Rgt)
