| LOUIS CARL BRANDHORST wrote on November 9, 2003 CITY AND STATE: MONMOUTH OR UNIT: HQ.BATTERY, 3RD AAA AW (SP) SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I was aan M-39 driver serving on Outpost Harry the Fall of 1952 and winter of 1953. I was at the Kumsong Salient the evening the ceasefire took place. It was a memorable evening. The artillery on both sides was furious all day, neither side wanting to have to haul ammo back, so at six P.M. the sudden silence was deafening. I shall never forget that experience!! Then from down the line, one could hear the cheers as each battery celebrated. I remember that a field artillery unit had been overrun at Kumsong, they had to spike their guns and retreat. We arrived along with elements of the third infantry to bolster the line. I believe the artillery unit may gave been the 555th but I'm not sure. I remember several names from that time, Held, a kid from Iowa, Tom Baden, Ritchie from Loma, WI. Keywords: |

AAA AW (SP), 3rd. Inf. Div., from April '51 until March '52. I was on Halftrack D-262, first as driver then as gunner. My Platoon leader was Lt. Michaels. Some of the other guy's on my squad were Sgt. Raymond, Victor Brown Eagle, Bill Chaco, Sonny Edwards, and a ROK who we all called #29, also Ruben Grant who was also from Cinti. Can't remember the other names, but that was a long time ago. Like to here from anyone who was in Bty. D. Keywords: |
