LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON SULLY BERMAN |
| NATHAN CRAMER wrote on September 16, 2011 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: As far as I know I am one of Sully Berman's only surviving relatives he would have been my great uncle. Am very proud of his service to this country but know nothing about him. His mother died when I was a child and my grandparents both died when I was young and I don't know my father. So any information about who he was and how he served would be great. Would love to talk to anyone that actually served with and knew him. Keywords: |

We ran in step and lots of times Sgt Shin would take someone's rifle giving him two rifles. We would hold it out with the right hand, then the left hand, out with both hands, over our head and then let it hang down to rest. | RICHARD H. MILLER wrote on July 28, 2006 CITY AND STATE: SANTA FE NM UNIT: B BATTERY , 3'D GUN BN., 39TH ARTILLERY, 7TH ARMY SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: NAVY VETERAN Comments: I served in B battery,3'd Gun Bn,39'th Field artillery at Dachau, Germany, in 1959. We were a seperate battery armed with M-65 280 mm rifles-- Atom Annie. We had live nukes without safeguards and a missiont to back up Second Geman Corps or the US 11 Armored Cav ( Col. Signeious ). ALso we patroled the Hof Gap with our nukes, sitting astride the classic invasion route from the east-- well ahead of the 4th AD, but behing the 11 ACR, Black Horse. Battery comanders were Cecil Pounder Davis from Missippi and Bob Weekly, USMA. I have seen photos of the 280 mm guns in Korea. Since I was an Armor Officer, and thus untrained in Artillery, I found commnding a 280 Gun an amusing experience, indeed. My basic degree is from the Citadel and so I studied under Mark Clark who also commanded in Korea. I resigned from the Army, went to South Carolina Law, rejoined the Navy Reserve and eventually retired as a Capitan of Naval intelligenc in 1994. I supect I was one of the last 280 Gunners in uniform. RHM Keywords: 280 mm Atomic Annie, 39'th Artillery |

Can't rememeber all the words to "Dogface Soldier" but do recall having to sing it before and after the movie. "Audie Murphy Sir" always rang loud and clear for months following its showing. Also reminded me of the day we stood in full dress for hours listening to the bells toll for JFK. I'm not ashamed to say thatrolled down my cheeks as I said our goodbyes to my commander and chief.Every man in our unit felt the grief of the loss but also witnessed the pride of serving one that was so loved by our German friends. A close friend's father has recently passed on and left a "yearbook" behind that is of the Third Battallion, Fourth Marine Regiment, Third Marine Division-Fleet Marine Force Pacific, dates are August 1953--August 1954. I have been entrusted me to investigate this book's worth, perhaps only as memorabilia and to find out if there is anyone interested in its contents. The book has been put away in a box for many years and is still in good condition. The book is full of yearbook style photos and names of people who may have some interest in them. It includes candid shots of everyday battalion life and has some personal notes/photos from Gen. Pepper and Gen. Risely. Also, "The Striking 9th", Fox and Dog companies. If you know of anyone that may be interested in this or could perhaps lead me to a website or forum in which the book could be discussed, I would greatly appreciate it and be very much in debt to you.
