Comments: My cousin Pvt. Donald E. Winters of the Headquarters Company, 36th Engineer Combat Group died in South Korea. Before serving his country he had been drafted by a major league baseball team. He died on July 18, 1953 of hemorrhagic fever at the 121st MASH.
Before his death he and his buddies had made a makeshift baseball diamond to play on. After his death the baseball field was "officially" named after him. The family has a photograph of the sign. Years later another family member in the service said the sign on that baseball field in Korea was still there. I was wondering if anyone knows whether it still exists.

Comments: I was company clerk and then after schooling became MOS for keeping the units military records and worked often directly for Colonel Jack Coan and had exciting days and events. One of my friends was the only man left alive of two hundred after erecting a pontoon bridge under fire. I had aa Korean interpreter who became a close friend and I learned to love and respect the great Korean people Paul Wade in Maine

Many who returned home were said to be alive and well. But as records keeper i saw the desperation of men who were discharged sick with life and bitter at wives who deserted them at home. Some of our own troops stabbed and raped each other. One AWOL man called me a liar and put down my throat a loaded carbine with full bannana clip. When on Sundays we took to the puckerbrush we walked by old soldiers bones. We only walked where the civilians dared, because where they blew up on the bouncing betties, we lived in their footsteps another day. Still for all the tears I believe as did Truman that dropping bombs sometimes saves a million lives if only once in a good while we ourselves will sand up and be counted. We did

I am seeking veterans who either knew me during my time in Korea, or
those vets who may have organized a reunion for ex members of the 36th
Engineers Group (c). I was in the unit from Jan 53 to May 54, and was
eventually a SFC and the commo chief. Would be interested in
attending a reunion.

I am a veteran of the Korean War, I was there from 1951 to 1953. I was
in the 8th Army 36th combat engineers, 1437 Treadway Bridge Company.
I was stationed in North Korea and was moved within many different areas
of the conflict. I would like to hear from anybody that was in 1437th
Treadway Bridge Company or anyone that was involved with them.

I found your email address in the Today Newspaper from Cocoa, Florida
today. I arrived in Korea shortly before Christmas, 1954. I'm trying
to find out where I was stationed when I first arrived in Korea. I
traveled from Sasebo, Japan to Pusan, Korea. I went by train to a repo
depot at Yong-do-po and was picked up by a jeep at the order of a
colonel in a major air group at Inchon.
From there I was sent to the 36 Engineering Group and was to be attached
to the 194 Engineering Battalion. I never reached that battalion, being
reassigned to the Engineering Groups Air Section at what I understood to
be the old destroyed village called Un Chon Ni. We had a 900 foot
runway, 3 fixed and 3 rotary aircraft. I seem to recall I Corp and
Tempest Main being somewhere close. There was also a large Mash unit
about 2 miles distant.
If you know of anyone who could help me locate this area, I would really
appreciate it.
Thank you,
