Association and WebsiteVisit website at: Click here Looking for Korea Army War Veterans who served in Korea with units affiliated with the 36th Engineer Combat Group. - IX Corps Engineers. Our location was below the Iron Triangle between Chorwan and Kumhwa near a shelled out town of Tae-de-gul. Interested in the whereabouts and status of veterans and would like to contact any veterans to exchange views and recollections. The 36th Engineer (C) Group was located alongside Route 22 east of MSR-3 near Tae-de-gul. There was also a small stream nearby also not far from 44th MASH and a water reservoir. Our working quarters were bunkers in a small hill. Affiliated Units – The 11th, 74th, 194th, 378th Engineer Battalions – 76th Dump Truck Co. – 86th Engineer Searchlight Co. – 323rd Engineer Company Light – 1437th Engineer Treadway Bridge Company. The purpose of this web site is to re-connect with old buddies, exchange news and views, revive old stories, renew old acquaintances, and indulge in a bit of nostalgia. This web page is focused on all veterans who had some connection with the 36th Engineer Group while in Korea and WW II. I’m just incidentally interested in whereabouts and status of members who served in this outfit at that time. 36th Engineer Combat GroupOn Sun, 1 Mar 1998 "Melvin G. I am seeking veterans who either knew me during my time in Korea, or those vets who may have organized a reunion for ex members of the 36th Engineers Group (c). I was in the unit from Jan 53 to May 54, and was eventually a SFC and the commo chief. Would be interested in attending a reunion. I'm trying to find out where I was stationed when I first arrived in Korea. I traveled from Sasebo, Japan to Pusan, Korea. I went by train to a repo depot at Yong-do-po and was picked up by a jeep at the order of a colonel in a major air group at Inchon. From there I was sent to the 36 Engineering Group and was to be attached to the 194 Engineering Battalion. I never reached that battalion, being reassigned to the Engineering Groups Air Section at what I understood to be the old destroyed village called Un Chon Ni. We had a 900 foot runway, 3 fixed and 3 rotary aircraft. I seem to recall I Corp and Tempest Main being somewhere close. There was also a large Mash unit about 2 miles distant. If you know of anyone who could help me locate this area, I would really appreciate it. Thank you, Charles. W. Sims 303 Glenridge Road, Cocoa, Fl 32926-8716 End Section: Go to Top |
