Comments: Would like to talk to someone that was part of this battle a few miles north of Yugong-ni and the rain swollen Yong River. My uncle has been MIA since that day. I attended the meeting in Washington DC last week, which I thought was very good. My aunts has never tried to research this area very much but it bothers them greatly. We received a report from the DPMO which is very helpful and gives more detail concerning the situation that he was in. It also agrees with the information giving to my grandma when he was classed as MIA, it includes more background information which is good to know.

I am looking for information on my grandfathers company. He was SFC or Specialist 3rd Class Byron C. Woodard. I would like to know of the engagements his company was in.
The story he told is his company was ambushed and only 2 came out alive. I was young when he told me this, and now he is no longer around to get the full story.
Please contact me if you know anything, this is very important to me.

Peter Persampieri wrote on 2002-02-24 17:40:53.0
Comments: Hi, My father Frank Persampieri was in Korea in 1951 and 1952. He died when I was a young child so I really didn't get a chance to ask him about some of the campaigns he fought in while he was in Korea. I noticed on his DD-214 that they have a box that states the most significant action saw.
They typed in 1812 Co "M" 35 INF. Regiment. I also see that he recieved the Korean Service medal w/2Bronze service stars and the combat infantry award badge per so 54 Hq 35th Inf Regt 16 May 1952. I was hoping if you could tell me what type of battles he fought in. I do recall he said he fired motars.
Thanks for your help. Peter Persampieri

Comments: Our family is researching our Father's Military career and have finally found this site! He passed away in 1996. We are hoping to come in contact with those who may have served with him. I would also like to know what this Military Occupation Specialty=01674 is exactly? He was seriuosly wounded 4/27/51 in combat, recovered, and returned to duty with the Far East Command and then Vietnam with SAC/MAAG forces. I would like to invite you to write us. My Father didn't talk much about this part of his career, but we know he lost many close friends on this day and would like to know who they were. We are also intrested in "project" names which can be submitted to the Army Intellegence Records office for retrieval. I am so proud to be an American and Thank all the dedicated souls who have kept thier promise of oath to protect our great Nation. Thank you & God be with you always, Melissa #4

Comments: Ramon was from El Paso in a section called Smeltertown. One of his friends from Smeltertown was Carlos Lopez who was sent to Co E of the 27th Regt. Carlos was decorated and promoted to M/Sgt. He died a heroic death on the same night as Ramon and about a mile to the west. I would like to hear from any Cacti B Company vets concerning the battle on that night. E Company 27th got a Presidential Citation for their fight and B Company should have also received one from what I read. Their fight appeared to have been as great or greater than the E Company fight. Dif they?

I would also like to know what was happening April 25th, 1951 and what the 25th infantry division was doing. How are the 25th and the 27th infantry divisions related ? there is some discrepency from one obit to the next as to whether Ruffus was in the 25th or 27th. I think he may hve been in the 27th in Japan and then the 25th division in Korea. What do you think ? His military tombstone says CPL. Co.K 27th infantryReg. 25th Infantry Division. Comments: I'm trying to find anyone that knew my father Corporal Armando Castro, he was KIA on June 2nd,1953. He resided in San Francisco, CA. and was of Spanish descent. I was only 22 days old when he died and I want to know if anyone remembers him. I have several pictures, some with his buddies but don't have any names. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronse Star Medal which was pinned on me on Oct. 17th, 1953 by Maj. Gen. Frank H. Partridge, deputy commanding General, Sixth Army. My father was given this medal for heroism in stopping an enemy attack although mortally wounded. I would love to hear from any one that knew my Dad. My name is Marina Castro and my emai address is macasa53@aol.com
