Comments: My late father Bill Whit Whitten, out of Windsor Locks, Conn, served with the 25th Infantry division, in the 35th infantry regiment in Korea, during the spring (maybe winter too) of 1953. He was a combat veteran, any information from people who served with or near my dad would be greatly appreciated. We talked about the war but since his death in 2009, I have become interested in the activities of his company. His old buddy's name was Chuck Conner (s), hailing from NY state, I think.
After the war he couldn't eat red meat, would hit the dirt if fireworks went off close by without warning, and once broke a hunters rifle against a tree when he let off a shot 10 feet behind us while we were fishing. He was a gentleman and that was absolutly out of character. In other words the war affected him well into the 1970s if not the rest of his life.

Comments: I have an 8 x 10 sepia W.W. II (or Korea?) era photo of a U.S. Army-35th Infantry (Reg.
or Div.?) officer-Col. Richard Wetherill in his uniform. I bought the photo at a
Durango, Colorado yard sale circa 1989. There is nothing written on the back as to
year, war, location, etc. I sent a photo-copy to Prof. Duane Smith (now retired) of Ft.
Lewis College in Durango some years ago to see if he knew anything about the photo and
if the person was related to the rancher of the same name who in the late 1800s
excavated Mesa Verde in SW Colorado. He wrote back with very little info. that did not
indicate a connection. If you are interested in helping in my research on the photo,
let me know. Thanks! In the photo he addresses a Major Ed Cooper. Im now searching the
I-net for the connection.

Comments: Looking for any information someone can give me about
the 29th infantry regiment 3rd battalion during the
Korean War. My dad, James Matthews was in Okinawa in
1949 and went to Korea in June/July 1950. Was in the
battle at Hadong and then his unit was placed with
either the 27th infantry Regiment or 35 infantry
Regiment since most of the men of the 29th were KIA or
WIA.
I have no idea what company he was with but would like
to find out any information about what battles he was
in or find out if he was in the 27th or 35th after the
battle of Hadong. If anyone know him or was in his
unit I would like to find any of those members as well.

Thanks for your help,

Bruce Matthews

Keywords: My friend, Joseph Gurule, was with the 25th Division, 35th Infantry, 3rd Battalion in Korea in 1951. Joe has asked me to see if there are ex-soldiers out there who might have served with him in the fighting for Hill 717 in October 1951. Joe was with the P and A (Pioneer and Ammunition) Platoon. Joe lives in Lafayette, Colorado. Because he does not have Internet access, he has asked me to put this information on the Internet in hopes of perhaps re-connecting with any of his old Army buddies. Joe was also involved in the fighting for Heartbreak Ridge on January 4, 1952.

Joe states that he remembers something called the Punch Bowl area.

Joe received the Combat Infantry Badge and 3 Bronze Stars.

Joe tells me that he was with a Combat Engineer Platoon and his MOS was 3729.

I am a Viet-Nam era veteran. I served with the U.S. Air Force, 58th MAC Squadron in the late 1960s.

Thank you for any help you can give Joe!

Comments: I am a disabled Marine helping my grandfather clear up his past records
with the VA, as you know this can be very difficult to do. He was taken
POW with several of his Army buddies during 1950 in Korea and during
that time they escaped and made it back to friendly hands, he believes it
to be the 1st Calvary lines. If anyone knows of this can you please contact
me! It is of vital importance! His name is William Bernard Woltkamp, he
served between November 1949 to November 1952, he also served in the
Marines and the Navy...
