Comments: I was Education, Training and Recreation NCO for Chunchon Area Comnmand Headquarters, all activities non-combat except for (1) an incident when a plane we used to deliver a USO troupe to our area strayed over enemy lines and we were strafed, holes in wings but no casualties and (2) nights in foxholes when enemy lioght air craft came in below radar and dropped armed artillery shells, no casualties. Picked up USO troupes, made weekly round trip from Chunchon to Seoul to pick up movies, developed library, conducted physical training.

Comments: I am doing some family and medical research for my father and on his DD 214 there is info listed as Most Significant duty assignment; Med Co 351 Infantry. Place of Separation Fort Sheridan, Ill. He began his service in July 1952. Might not believe this but he was called 'Radar' and lived in Iowa. He mentioned he was a cook. He's still going strong but I am doing some family background and research for his VA benefits. He would be very excited to talk to anyone who was in his unit and from that time frame. Please contact me with any information. Thank you,

Comments: I have finally completed my book on the history of the very first National Guard units that set foot in Korea in 1950 to support the Korean War. My unit was the 726th Transportation Truck Company with the 231st Transportation Truck Battalion. Both units were from the Maryland National Guard. The 726th set foot in Pusan, Korea on December 31, 1950, the 231st followed the next day. My book, "Forgotten Road Warrior" not only documents the history of these two units in Korea, bit documented the history of these two all-African American companies back to their beginning in 1879 at "The Monumental City Guard" from Baltimore, Maryland.

Comments: My unit, a National Guard unit from the State of Maryland, the 726th Transportation Truck Company, a component of the HQ & HQ Co, 231st Transportation Truck Battalion, arrived in Korea on December 31, 1950, and as such, we were the very first United States National Guard unit to set foot in Korea to support the war. I don't recall all of the places the 726th went to during the war, but I do recall that we spent quite some time hauling napalm from Inchon City to Kimpo Air base in Seoul, and helping in the evacuation of (I think it was) part of 8th Army Headquarters when it was almost overrun in (I think) the winter of 1951. I recall having to drive our trucks over the Han River when the bridge was blown up. I transferred to HQ & HQ Co, 70th Trans Truck Battalion, and was moved from a truck driver to a personnel clerk. I left Korea in early 1952 and was assigned to the 19th Infantry Regiment or the 24th Infantry Division and went to Japan until 1953. I reenlisted in the Regular Army in North Korea during one of those pushes in 1951, and stayed in for twenty some years. Went back to Korea in 1962 (assigned to the US Army Procurement Agency in Yongsan Compound in Seoul, and again in 1969 where I was assigned to KMAG, also in Yongsan Compund in Seoul. Would love to hear from anyone assigned to those units when I was assigned. I am in the process of writing a book about the 726th and HQ & HQ Co, 231st, both are MD National Guard units, and would love to hear from anyone assigned to those units during the Korean War.
