UNDIAGNOSED ILLNESS

Comments: During my tour at our mountain top base( I never knew it had a

name), I was at the NCO club in Taipei. I was very tired and

decided to get on the bus that took us back up the mt. I had

about 2 hrs. before it left. I laid down on the backseat and got

some shut eye. The front door was open along with some of the

windows. The bus was parked just outside the club compound next

to a canal. I woke up after an hour or so and quickly noticed

that every part of my body that was exposed was covered with

mosquito bites. Two days later, as I was getting ready for the

midnight trick, I became violently ill. I WENT TO THE MEDICS

TENT AND THEY PUT ME IN THEIR AMBULANCE AND RUSHED ME TO THE

small hospital area. This happened to be inside the same NCO

club I had been to earlier. I was unconscious and had a temp of

105. The only thing I remember was being put into a rubber tub

and covered in ice cubes. I felt nothing and became comatose

again. I do not know how long I was in that state. I remember

waking up on a Sunday AM. A chaplain was handing out ice cream

to the patients. There were only 3 of us. There were 5 beds

total. It took me almost two weeks to regain the strength to get

back to my duties. I never saw a doctor. A nurse would wake me

at night to give meds.Is there anyone who remembers this

incident. Guys came to visit me. At 78yrs,I can not remember any

specific name. I would like to know if what I had caused the

trouble I have had for many years. As you well know, I lost my

records in the fire in Missouri. Thanks for any help from

someone out there with a better memory than I have. It happened

in the middle of 1956.

as part of the Wire Section building the new Antenna
Field. Was with them when the unit was sent to Formosa
at Shu Linkou also part of the Wire Section putting up
a new antenna field, temp. poles then towers. Sure
enjoyed the tent living and mud. Understand all that
changed after I left and the AF took over.

Comments: I was an ASA Watch Officer at the 327CRC based in Linkou, Taiwan, from Aug '56 to Nov '57. I would be most interested in learning the history of the 327th prior to its being based on Taiwan
