Comments: I arrived in South Korea in January 1968 and was first stationed at Camp Baker with Co. A 304th Signal Bn. as a 72B communication center specialist. I lasted in that MOS for only 4-5 months and received a field command promotion and MOS change to 95B Military Police where my duties were with the 304th Signal Bn. Detachment at Camp Coiner. In October 68 I attended the NCO Academy at Camp Casey. After the academy I was promoted as the NCOIC of the 304th Security Police Detachment at Camp Baker in Yong Dong Po.

Comments: At the high point on Camp Coiner were 2 Air Force barracks used by the 6146th Air Force Advisory Group (AFAG). Our unit motor pool was also on Camp Coiner. Our duty station was at ROKAF HQ on the south side of the Han River. During the 6 day duty week, we made two round trips a day, to and from Camp Coiner to our offices at ROKAF HQ. The "O" Club was nearby and a popular spot. The 6146th also used Family Housing on Yongson for "accompanied" members.

Comments: Winters were cold, summers were humid. Remember that during the monsoon it rained 24 hours a day for seven days. Rains fowled the communications and often messages arrived "garbled." We had to try to repair the damage in crypto to make vital communications between fighting units decipherable. We were a solid squad with much commeraderie. We had nightly air raids from Charlie. We actually signed our names to the armistice in July 1953 but fighting went on anyway.

Comments: I am a law professor at Widener University School of Law. I run a free clinic for disabled veterans and their families who have had a tough time getting VA compensation. I represent Audrey Lingo, widow of Larry Lingo, a member of the 304th Signal battalion in 1949-50. Lingo died of complications of diabetes type II in 2001. His service records were lost in the 1973 fire at NARA St. Louis. Mrs. Lingo needs to prove that her husband had the symptoms of diabetes in 1949-50 while on duty in Japan. He claimed to have been hospitalized in that time period for the condition. The symptoms would include frequent urination, thirst, periods of faintness or light-headedness, etc. Please, any of your Korean War vets who remember Lingo who can furnish us with information should contact me ASAP Prof. Thomas J. Comments: We were the LL platoon and did mostly motor pool activity. We would set up at the 8th Army bunker and work 12 on, 12 off. Two (HOT) beers a day. I serves as the platoon clerk and worked out the hut. We received a unit citation for the July 1970 exercise at the bunker, remember? when the phony messages went live. Some of us were deployed else where and our group ended up in the dry river bed until the rains came. Water up to the headlights on the duce & half. Heating the cans on the generator manafold. The micowave guys showing us how they heated their meals with the antenna output. CD was the platoon Sgt. My wife Chery came over and we lived out in the ville. We were in Mapo Dong.

then with the 3rd Signal Co, 3rd Infantry Division from April 53 to
April 54. Rcvd Air Medal & Bronze Star

Will continue to explore the project and if I can help I'd like to.
