2ND ROCKET BATTERY KOREA |
| JAMES HOMAN wrote on March 4, 2012 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: I have had the great experience of coming in contact with veterans of the Korean Conflict and who served with my father, Capt R F Homan Jr, battery commander. My father passed away in 1995 and didn't speak much of his WWII or Korean experiences. He did one time mention Whitehorse Mountain and the terrible action it was, the dead. He was wounded while driving up to one of his OPs when the Chinese/Koreans started shelling the area and he was hit by shrapnel. He was also caught in a firefight between ROK troops and the enemy and wounded again. The picture of his jeep show the jeep all shot up, looking like swiss cheese. He was very fortunate to escape with his life. Keywords: Korea, 2nd Rocket Battery, Capt Homan |

I AM TRYING TO FIND THE OUTFIT MY FATHER, WAYNE HOPKINS, WAS IN DURING THE KOREAN CONFLICT. |
| DAVID HOPKINS wrote on April 12, 2004 City and State: OLNEY MD Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: I am trying to find the outfit my father, Wayne Hopkins, was in during the Korean conflict. He left from Ft. Sill. I was just starting the 3rd grade. I know the outfit left as a rocket unit but later converted to 105mm howitzers towed by deuce and halfs.. The unit was African Americans, but he was Caucasian as were, I believe, all the officers. Thank you, David Hopkins Keywords: |

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION |
| PATRICIA LACROIX wrote on November 12, 1999 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: I've clicked on several of your listed units that sound similar to his -- IX Corps Headquarters and 2nd Field Artillery Observation -- but either have not been able to access, or I'm not sure if it's really the right one. None of the units listed has the exact specification he has given me. One clue: His battery was an experiment in integrating black and white soldiers on the battlefield. The General they reported to was Gilmore, the Commander was Hopkins. Appreciate any help you can give me! Keywords: My father served with the 2nd Field Artillery (rocket) battery. It was attached to the 6th Republic of Korea division and was part of{?) the IX Corps Artillery. |
