Looking for anone who remembers my Dad, Morris (M.C. or Tex) Walton

Ruth Stewart wrote on 2009-06-23 14:49:44.0

Comments: My father has been denied benefits because his records were destroyed in "the fire" back in the 70's. We are trying to prove that he fought for our Country in the Korean war. We have been trying for 4 years now. If anyone can remember Morris, nicknames M.C or Tex... would you please contact me? Dad arrived in Korea in 1950 or 1951 and discharged in 1953. He started out as 2nd Infantry Division he was injured and spent either Thanksgiving or Christmas in the 8228 MASH "hospital" receiving rehabilitation. Upon release from 8228, he was sent to the 2nd Combat Engineers. He met and befriended Bill Tallon and stayed in the same bunker as Bill. Dad says he didn't become too friendly with fellow soldiers, "self preservation, as you never knew who was going to still be around tomorrow". Dad served under General Fry for a time. He received a purple heart and was supposed to receive a Silver Star. He returned home on a ship, possibly the Hope Ship to the San Fransico bay. He was given a "state room" and invited upper ranked men who were staying bellow to go and use the room. Anyone who may remember him, PLEASE contact me. My name is Ruth my phone number is 530-366-2326. Thank you so much.

Comments: My wifes uncle, Larry O'Dea was reported missing on 1 December 1950 in the vicinity of Sonchu. During the last week of Nov. 1950 the 2nd ID was fighting off persistent Chinese attacks in the Chongchon River area in northwest North Korea. He was reported missing near Sunchon. If anyone knew Larry O'Dea or knows what his faith was, his family would certainly appreciate any information. Thank You

Authorization to wear a shoulder sleeve insignia indicating former wartime service applies only to soldiers who are assigned to U.S. Army units that meet all the following criteria. Soldiers who were prior members of other Services that participated in operations that would otherwise meet the criteria below are not authorized to wear the SSIFWTS. Wear is reserved for individuals who were members of U.S. Army units during the operations&

b(2). Korea: between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954, both dates inclusive. Also from 1 April 1968 to 31 August 1973, for those personnel who were awarded the Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman badge, Combat Medical badge, or who qualified for at least one months hostile fire pay for service in a hostile fire area in Korea.

b(7). Korea: 23 November 1984, for soldiers who directly participated in the firefight with North Korean guards at the Joint Security Area (JSA), Panmunjom, Korea.

Comments: Hello, I am trying to learn about my deceased grandfather, CPL John D Salzbrenner. He died in Korea in September 12, 1952. He was 2nd Engineer Combat BN, 2nd Inf Div. I would love to know anything at all about the kind of man he was. I know very little and have a great appreciation for what he must have endured. Please let me know of any memories any of you have of him. Thank you. Steve Salzbrenner

Lookingfor 2nd Engineers who served in 1968-69 any Company

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Phil Steward wrote on 2007-12-01 21:01:16.0

Comments: Please contact me. I am looking for any and all former members of the 2nd Engineer Battalion from any Company who served in Korea at any time in 1968 and 1969.

Several of your brothers are still fighting the effects of our time in Korea. We need photos, copies of Combat Pay orders, statements of duties of the 2nd Engineers who worked in and along the DMZ or who were in my Company, E Company (Float Bridge).

Right now I am working with several guys from 2nd Engineer Battalion who have multiple health issues as a direct result of exposure to Agent Orange. Yes guys, that stuff sprayed along the fence, around the guard towers and the Guard Posts and Out Posts we were building was the infamous Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed along the roads inside the Zone and around the bridgeheads at Freedom, Libby and the Spoonbill Bridges was Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed around our compounds to kill the brush and weeds was Agent Orange.

Even if you have not had any symtoms, like Diabetes, heart problems, a variety of different cancers, or any other health issues, we need to hear from you. And if you are fighting or have faught with VA for care and compensation for these health problems, we need to hear from you. And most importantly, if you had children conceived after your return from Korea who were born with birth defects, we need to hear from. If you have been successful in winning a claim filed for Agent Orange poisoning or PTSD as a result of your service in Korea, it is very important for you to contact me.

Even though I am just a former Captain and Company Commander, I made a promise 40 years ago to stand up for my men and to back them in anything as long as they did what the officers and NCOs asked them to do. I take that promise very seriously and now, 40 years later, I will continue to back and stand up for our men. It is very important that I hear from you as soon as possible. For many of your brothers, the time could be very short, but they have families who will need help even if it is too late for the men themselves.

If you can and will help, please contact me at my email: pesteward@hotmail.com, or call me at (706) 996 - 4057.

Thank you.
