MICHAEL D. Peters wrote on 2000-11-30 13:07:25.0

Comments: Have been searching for some time for information pertaining to my Dad's participation in the Korean War. My mother recently uncovered a picture with the following inscription:

"27th Wolfhounds -- somewhere in Korea."

I guess my question is the oft asked, "Does anyone remember my Dad.?" My dad was PFC Shelby H. "Pete" Peters who was from Marfork, Raleigh County, WV. He was born 9 February 1932. I do not know exactly what years he was in Korea but I did find some info courtesy of an old DD214 form. Under the heading of "Decorations, Medals, Badges, etc," are listed the following:

Korean Svc Medal AR 600-65 EUSAK Cir 125 25 Dec 50 3 Bronze Stars DA GO 55 1951 1 O/S Bar AR 600-40

If I read this correctly, then one medal was awarded on Christmas 1950 & the 3 Bronze Stars were awarded in 1951. Is this right? If it is, then we know that he was in country in 1950 & 1951.

My mother also seems to remember that one of his buddies was named "Hogan."

Does any of this trigger anyone's memory? I don't know much about my father's military career. He died in 1967. A 10 year old son didn't have "the need to know" that a 43 year old now has.

Thank you in advance for any information or guidance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Mike Peters npeters102@aol.com

According to his DD-214, along with medical records, Ed received a "GUN SHOT ABOVE THE LEFT EYE – NORTH KOREA - 29 NOV 50." Also, the Service Data section list "Purple Heart" with his awards.

He never received the Award, or Citation. I am looking for anyone that can either provide details, or points of contact to help me.

Comments: My Dad, Leonard Durling (1930-1995), served in Korea. I am unable to obtain his military records, they were destroyed in the fire. My mom remembers a patch with a lightning bolt on it on his uniform, and him talking about "Wolfhounds". Is there anywhere to look to find out what unit he was in? Does anyone remember "Tiny" (who was not tiny - just the opposite). He always told us he got the nickname in Korea.

So far of my 9 years in the Army the three I spent as a Wolfhound were by far the best. Never have I seen a unit with more espre de corp than the 27th Infantry. I feel that is a direct credit to the pride and dignity you gentelmen gave to the unit through your sacrifices. I just wanted to say thank you for what you did for our country and that it was an honor to serve in a unit as proud as the Wolfhounds.

My father's unit was placed in several different places. Not very many men made it out of his unit. I would love to hear from anyone, who does know my father. He is alive and doing well. It is hard for him to remember some of the names of fellow vets. He said, "it was so long ago." Some times the memory are painful for him, as well as for others, I'm sure!

Wonderful site. Thank You for caring enough to remember all our men who fought so hard. You are not forgotten.

He was part of the unit that relieved the 7th coming out of the Chosan Resevoir, if that information is helpful.

Comments: My Father served honorably in the wolfhounds and I have always wanted to know more about his experiences. He suffers from PTSD and does not talk much about his time " In Country ", when he does talk about Korea, that night he has BAD NIGHTMARES and for that reason, he does not talk about it very often. I am very proud of the fact that my father fought for our country. To me, everyone who served and fought for the USA is a hero. If anyone who reads this served with my dad, please email me. If you by any chance have any photo's of him, I would like to see them. All of the photo's that he had were confiscated on the ship coming home.

He told me of his stories about him and the Wolfhounds. He was trying to get reunited with some of his friends from when he was in the service. He was in the Army for 20 years. He ended up as a Master Sergeant. At the time he was the youngest Master Sergeant ever to be in the Army. If any of you knew him please email me ASAP!!! at DdayMarineSniper@aol.com Thank you very much.
