Comments: I am looking for anyone who knew, or served with, Jimmy Knighton Jr., KIA 8/30/52. I was adopted, and was told that my birth father was killed in the Korean War. I have found out that my birth name was Lloyd Knighton, and believe that there is a possibility that Jimmy Knighton Jr. was my father. Any information that anyone can provide me with will be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I got to Korea in November of 1953 when the division was still on the DMZ. I was assigned to Div Hdq motor pool and later transfered to the Division Public Information Office. While in the motor pool, I had the honor of chauffeuring around an officer (I think he was a Captain)who was rotating home. We also had his pet dog in the jeep with us.My motor officer, Lt William E Chambers, and several others had told me that this officer was one of the most highly decorated of the war, and had at one point refused to leave the line after being wounded several times, until he received written orders from the commanding general to do so. He was called Mr Wolfhound.Does anyone know who this might have been?

Comments: I am seeking any info about my Uncle,Pvt (E2)Dannie C Morgan. He was in the Army, 27 INF RGT 25 INF DIV. He was listed as being hit by hostile small caliber fire and then DOW (Died of Wounds). Date of loss 09/14/50. I never got to meet him since I was born in Oct. '52. He would have been 17 or 18 yrs old(born in 1932) about 6' tall and approx. 200#. He was a farm boy and would have been from Dublin, Texas (sometimes listed as just Erath County, Texas). My Mother is the last living of 4 children of which Dannie was the youngest. I know she would be be greatly appreiative of any and all responses as would I. Thank you for any help.
Respectfully, Dr. Leslie Sharp

Know of one story in which prisioners almost escaped by digging a hole with a spoon but were caught and then kept busy by making them hand rocks from one to another to build a dike across the end of the island. He was also in Seoul and inchon at one point in time. Returned to the US in Oct. 52 Any information would be very helpful.

Comments: Over the years I have heard the story of the successful withdrawl of the Marines from the Chosin Resevoir. It is my recollection that it was "The Wolfhounds" that had the dubious honor of fighting the rearguard action so that the marines could complete this withdrawl with a minimum amount of casualties. I have never seen credit given to the 27th Regt for this heroic action. My recollection was that a Col Michaelis was in command. Is my memory correct in this matter?

Comments: I am with the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs. I am trying to help a widow obtain her husband's Purple Heart, if ever issued. He lost his right leg to a mine in early March 1951. He was evacuated to Japan and then stateside. He was eventually discharged on April 30, 1952. She has a copy of his discharge from WWII and his discharge certificate from 1952, but no information on any awards from Korea. His records went up in smoke in 1973 at St Louis. They are trying to help but could use any documents or information to confirm his Purple Heart. If it was never awarded, maybe someone witnessed the event and can help a widow get it awarded 50 years late.

Comments: My husband Fred Elam died in Dec. of 1996. I did not know him during his time in Korea (1951-52) but he was proud of his service with the Wolfhounds. Fred, too, suffered nightmares about the battles, even through his final days. I have a lot of snapshots that he took over there; most of them have names written on them. If anyone recognizes Fred as having served with them, I would be glad to share pictures.

Comments: I am a Ph.D. candidate in history at Ohio State University, researching the Wolfhound's performance in the early months of the Korean War to determine what made them such an effective fighting unit when other regiments performed much less well. I am interested in contacting veterans who served in the 27th Infantry both during the Occupation of Japan, 1945-1950, and those who served in the regiment during the time COL Michaelis commanded it (July 1950-February 1951). Full disclosure--I am an active-duty Army officer (infantry), researching in hopes of publishing at a future date. I served in the 25th Infantry Division (Light) from 1993-1996. Your experiences are important to me, both as a soldier, and as an American.
