Comments: I'm trying to find information for my father-in-law who was wounded at Hill 104 on 28 May 1952. He was a sergeant in the USMC, though that may not have been his rank at the time he was wounded. His name is Lacy Gray Sanford. He grew up in West Virginia, but now lives in Culpeper, Virginia. He was blown up by a hand grenade. He thinks he was with the 1st Marines, though I think he may have been with the 7th Marines. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your service to our country. Happy Veterans Day.

Comments: I am compiling a journal, "My Dad, My Hero", as my dad was in service to his country in three wars, WW1 infantry, and as American Red Cross with the fighting troops in WW11 and Korea. He spent some time in Okinawa prior to the Korean war. I believe he was active with the 27th Infantry Division in Korea. I would be very grateful to anyone who knew him, and for any information about his service in Korea. His nickname was Bock. He had been denied enlisting in the service in WWll, and at the time of the Korean action he was in his mid fifths, but volunteered to serve troops in action. He served with the Red Cross military until he retired. As with the majority of service men, he never talked about what he went through, and of course now it is too late to ask him Thank you very much for any memory you may have. Betty Williams

I was the 4-87 IN BN "Catamounts"chaplain from 1992 to 1995. They didn't go to Korea with the division. 1-27 and 4-27 "Wolf Hounds" were in the same brigade. Anyone out there have a photo or story of a M38 Jeep I can display at MVPA parades? God Bless you All and Thanks CH Rob

I think he said something once about "executed soldiers" and then clammed up. I have an article from the "Charlotte Observer" from when he was MIA during the evacuation of hungnam. Would like to know where I could find info on medals, citations, and history of the 27th and particularly Company K. Please help.

Comments: My name is, Shelley Roe, and I'm trying to gather infomation about my father, Robert Dwaine Maki. My father died on August 7th, 2000. He was a terrific man. Speaking of the War was not something he did. Since his death, men that have known him in this town , have spoke of medals, and or, decorations that he received. I've since pursued this information, and will receive his awards between August and September of 2008. I want to have his Flag, and all decorations framed and displayed properly. This precess has now lead me here. Did anyone out there know, or serve with my dad, Robert Dwaine Maki? Any and all iformation would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Shelley Roe Daughter of Robert D. Maki

Comments: I'm trying to find anyone who knew my grandfather SGT John R. Vitek, he was a radio operator in B co 27th INF RGT, 25th ID. He was wounded in the right ankle during the retreat from the YALU River. He treated his own injury and did not go to the aid station because it was full and did not get a medics help because they were busy. I'm trying to get him awarded the Purple Heart medal but we need a deposition from somebody who knew him and who has/saw/remembers him being wounded. We have a picture of him on R&R in Japan in 1951 wearing the PH ribbon, he was sent to Camp Carsons Hospital and medicaly discharged. We think that some of his paperwork didn't catch up.

These guys had been in battle for many months and I could see in their eyes that they were more than ready to pull out. We trasported them to Koji Do, an island off Pusan, which is the site of a prisoner of war camp. Side note: I have a photo of me next to a jeep that has a skull attached to its hood. Perhaps someone will remember. Thanks to all you brave guys who served there from an old Navy Vet.

Comments: In some notes my father kept were some words of the Wolfhounds. I think it appropriate today to leave these words to remembrance to those Wolfhounds.
So long Lieutenant we are leaving, though it breaks my heart to go. But you will never make a captain by keeping your men out in the snow. No more mortar drill on Sunday. No more 60 men on pass. And you can tell old colonel ****** to stick this regiment up his ***. Now when I get back to good old Frisco, with my discharge in my hand. I'll think of you my dear lieutenant, as the biggest ******* in *******.
The Don't be Misled words are appropriate today. I remember the Wolfhounds, No Fear on Earth.

Comments: My Dad, Charles Garrity was drafted around 1957 into the infantry, I may have the wrong dates. He had a stroke a few years ago and he recalls pictures he had of his army buddies. He is trying to locate any memorabilia. I was born in 1964, I believe he was discharged in 1963. He is from Glasgow Scotland and quite a character, I am hoping someone recalls him and can give me some information to pass on to him. This is important to him, he thinks I have his army photos, but sadly I do not. I would like to be able to locate some for him or give him some memories. Thanks for any assistance.

I think the date was in September of 1952. We were both from the same county in Nebraska. We entered the Army at the same time and both took Infantry basic training at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. When we got to Korea, I was assigned to G company and Adolph was assigned to the First Battalion. It seems to me it was either A or B company.

Comments: Trying to undertsand the above since my father also had the 25th Tropical Lightning Patch on his uniform. I know that the 27th formed into the 25th along with another division and 2 others formed into another.
I'm trying to find anyone who knew my dad either from Boot camp, or the war or was stationed with him. He joined the Army on Dec. 19th 1949 in Missouri I believe. Did boot camp in Kansas possibly. He was stationed in Japan which he has a medal for. Was also stationed at Fort Lewis, Wa., and Fort Lawton, where he was discharged Dec. 9th, 1952. He was in the Korean War, I am assuming with the 25th Div. I am unclear on exactly which unit he was with. My dad passed away in 1987 from Lung cancer.
I am hoping to find people who knew him and also who may be able to help me clear up exactly how his unit is said. He was 17 when he joined the Army and was a short man, about 5'-7". He was shot in both thighs in the Korean War and was evacuted to a hospital in the states. He went back to duty but not the war itself. unclear if the fighting was over by the time he healed or what.
I will need to dig out his DD2 again to find his Military dates. He had a Honorable discharge. Would like to see if there are any Military Records for him but not sure if they could have been destroyed by the fire. I had heard that not all of them were, but after getting his replacemnet medals, they kept the copy of the DD214 for records due to the fire.
ALL INFO is appreciated...........But most of all.
THANK YOU FOR MY FREEDOM!

RE:Request for Assistance
To:Jim Malachowski
From:Rich Wiersema, (MAJ US Army)
Dear Sir,
I am researching the operations of the 27th Infantry Regiment in the
Republic of Korea during the summer of 1950 as part of a Masters Degree
program at the US Army School for Advanced Military Studies, Fort
Leavenworth, KS. I'm sketching out the structure of a monograph that
will address the differences in the 27th Infantry's performance when
compared against the other US regiments present in Korea that summer.
Can you help me locate:
(1) S-2 records--don't want a "unit history" but a combat log
usually filled out by the intelligence section--(not sure how it was
done in 1950) from the 1/27, 2/27, 3/27 and the Regimental HQ covering
the period 10 Jul - 15 Sep 1950?
(2) Maps or operations graphics used by LTC Michaelis, his staff and
his battalion commanders?
(3) Survivors of the combat actions during that period? (I am
particularly interested in NCOs and junior officers who were with the
regiment prior to its departure from Japan, and later served under LTC
Michaelis in Korea).
Any assistance you or the staff at the regimental museum could give me
would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Rich Wiersema

The S4 shop of 25th Infantry Division's 3rd Brigade is working on a
project to dedicate a motor pool at Schofield Barracks to a
distinguished veteran of either the 27th, 35th or 5th Infantry
regiments.
Those units have battalions in the present day 3rd Brigade.
We have done preliminary research and it appears all deceased
Congressional Medal of Honor recipients have had facilities named for
them. We are looking for DSC or Silver Star recipients (by Army regs,
dedications can only be to the deceased) from the Wolfhounds you might
recommend as candidates.
Please reply to this address, or to my duty email of

From: Carol A Monson
My husband, Maynard J. Monson, originally from Midland, Michigan, now
residing in Tuscon, Arizona, served in the Korean War from 1950-1952,
Pusan. He was in the 25th Div, 27th IR, Wolfhounds.
He is looking for John Addis, then believed from Evanston, Indiana, or
anyone from his unit.
Thank you,
Mrs. Monson
Pusan to Bowling Alley
Philip J. Kober with the wolfounds 1949 to 1951; bowling alley and
other battles.
Are your writing anything about the wolf hounds? My father, now
deceased, fought with the 25th infantry division. He earned two
bronze stars and a silver star (or bronze with valor) we are not sure.
He told me many intersting stories about the war and I am sure that it
left him permanetly changed or scarred--he manned a fifty caliber
machine gun.
His unit fought the North Koreans from the Pusan triangle all the way
up to near the Yalu river where they were pushed all the way back by
the Chinese and then pushed them to the areas that delineates the the
two countries. He was in the battle of the "bowling alley."
He also claimed to be on the hill above the area where Captain Easy
engaged in the battle that resulting in his having been given the medal
of honor.
He also told me many sad and horrible stories and some funny stories.
He told me the names of a few people that he fought with and I am
intersted in finding out if there are veterans out there who might
remember my father. Who could I contact?
Thanks.

Dear sirs,
Do you have any information on the 25th Infantry Division in Korea? My
grandfather was the commanding officer of Easy Co, 27th IR in Nov
1950.
My grandfathers name is Capt. Reginald B. Desiderio. He was killed
in Ipsok, N. Korea on Nov 27, 1950 Medal of Honor.
I would like to know the hill # and where the hill is, and any other
information you have. I belive it was a little north of Kunuri,
closer to Ipsok near the Kuryong River. They were on a hill shaped
like a C.
They were on the lower part of the hill and the Chinese were on the
upper part.
Thanks.

Dear Jim:
My dad was with the Assualt Gun Plattoon of the 89th MTB and was at the
battle with Easy Co. 27th Inf at Ipsok. His unit got a Presidential
Unit Citation.
My dad was a bow gunner in an M-4 at the time. He didn't know your
grandfather of course but has all too vivid memories of the battle. I
have copy of the Citation Order plus a copy of 89th MTB battalion book
which describes the battle. If you would like a ccopy of these please
email me your address.

My uncle, Winfred "Ray" Murphy was in the 25th Inf so not sure which
section to post to. He was killed in action Feb 5 1951.
I was 6 years old at the time and have fond memories of him before he
was shipped to Korea. His military funeral has been forever etched in
my memory. If anyone remembers serving with him, would like to hear
from them.
He was from Shannon/Carter Co Missouri area - is buried in Carter Co Mo.
He had never married and had no children. The VFW in Carter Co is

One of my commanding officers was named Capt. David J. Owens and
another one was Capt. William Goodrum (Spelling on that one)I can only
remember a fellow soldier by the name of Warner Oaks from Milinockit,
Maine and that is probably the wrong spelling for the city.
I was later moved of the lines to a company called the 75th Engineers

April or June of 1953 until Sept. 1954. He served 16 months in Korea.
I am also looking for a buddy of his, Tommy J. Arnold may be from Texas.
This is a period of time that my dad refuses to talk about.
What happened?
Can contact me at ahardway@ruralnet.org.
Thanks
Sharon
